I recently read an article about autopsies being performes on honey bees and the black mold on their stingers, the double to triple-sized organs full of infection, and an apparent genetic change starting at the gut where nutrients are absorbed.

One theory points that the genetic changes in HFCS comes from genetically modified corn. Jeffery Smith has more than adequately shown good reason to be concerned about the possibility of genetic mutation and recombination from GM foods.

While humans have amazing resistance, the bees may be showing us a horrible fate if we continue to allow GM foods which will the current regime insists will soon become our fuels and industrial toxins.

Meanwhile, farms are converting to the new GM world and dairy products are going up in price while their quality is going down and being changed, undoubtedly, genetically. We are the recipients. There is a real disadvantage of sitting atop the food chain when our decisions for plant and animal management are so poor and short-sighted!

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

Hi everyone. I so enjoy Dr. Mercola's website and listen to what he has to say and respect his ideas when it comes to health. Avoiding soda in my family has simply came down to me no longer buying it and for the most part that stops much of the consumption. Although I do have teenagers who make their own money and will buy soda on occasion. But the real question I have for anyone willing to let me know is- are there any good punch recipes that do not include adding soda? My oldest daughter just graduated from high school and for her grad party I will be serving punch. I would prefer not to add soda because I always say don't drink it so it would be more than wrong to serve it. Does anyone have a suggestion. I will be serving approximately 100 people.
Thanks...

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

I do not agree that you can avoid benzoate by not drinking soda's. I do not drink them and I find it harder every day to find any thing that does NOT contain benzoate. I have a low tolerance for it (and artificial sweeteners) so I look at every label before I buy anything. It is getting so that I cannot eat or drink anything.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

I drink Kombuch tea, which is my 'soda' these days...i think it's available everywhere now. if you don't know it check it out.....it is a fermented drink so it's fizzy like a soda, and it can come in lots of flavors....it's natural, no preservatives etc, tiny amount of sugar added (needed for fermentation process), and natural flavorings like ginger. you can get it at Whole Foods now.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

For years I have told people how harmful Sodas are for HTN and Diabetics. I believe the increase in kidney dialysis is related to the intake of soft drinks. If people understood the difference in Sodium Chloride which the body recognizes, and sodium nitrates and other sodiums that the body takes a while to deal with, they would see how harmful soft drinks and processed meats are. I explain that it doesn't matter whether diet or regular soft drinks, they both are damaging to the kidneys.
Thanks for your information.
Linda W.
Sodium benzoate is also most prevalent in foods such as preserves, salad dressings, jams, fruit juices, pickles and Chinese food sauces (soy, mustard, and duck). For some reason soda pop was singled out as though it was the only product that contained this preservative. I don’t understand the attack on soda pop by this site but it does seem as though there is some kind of hidden agenda against this product going on.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

I'm still looking for the link that says, " send email to a friend," or some such thing.
MM

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

Vital votes ARE vital for great information to all of us.
Soda does not have ANY privileges in my house-zero, nothing. If someone request it, while visiting I just will say-I do not spend my money on that junk.
I do not care what people think about that. I am very good cook and is always lots quality food and purified water with lemon, many kind of teas available for my guests. Also I believe good beer is better than soda pop with mile long list ingredients on it!
My two children follow my example and stopped to drink pop-specially coke, after they learned you can loose rusty bolts with it.!

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

Sodium benzoate is used to prevent yeast, mold, and fungal growth in liquid products. Is it any surprise that it shuts down energy production in yeast? This study only confirms it apparently does what it is supposed to. This study has yet to be published, so at this point it is basically hearsay. Maybe wait to jump to conclusions until Professor Piper tries this with human cells.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

My son is at a daycare where they serve "FDA 100% juice." I tasted it
once and it did not taste like juice. I asked the cook to see the
ingredients. On a jug of concentrate were the following ingredients:
'white grape juice concentrate, natural and artificial flavors, citric
acid, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.' I am not kidding. The
label read "FDA approved 100% juice." This is what the school system is
giving our children.

My son is being moved to a new, private care center that serves organic
milk and no juice (for this and other reasons). I am appalled.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

This is my first post to this site, although I've been reading Dr. Mercola's newsletter for a number of years.
The soft drink, which hit stores here on Tuesday, doesn't actually have any cucumber in it — but has been artificially flavored to resemble "the refreshing taste of a fresh cucumber," said Aya Takemoto, spokeswoman of Japan's Pepsi distributor, Suntory Ltd.

"We wanted a flavor that makes people think of keeping cool in the summer heat," Takemoto said. "We thought the cucumber was just perfect."

The mint-colored soda is on sale just for the summer and only in Japan, Takemoto said. She said initial sales were brisk, and Suntory aims to sell 200,000 cases over the next three months.

Pepsi trails behind industry leaders Coca Cola (Japan) Company, with about 15 percent of the Japanese cola market, and also faces stiff competition from non-fizzy bottled drinks like green tea and coffee, which are popular here.

Suntory said it sold 20.5 million cases of Pepsi brand drinks in 2006, including its popular Pepsi NEX zero-calorie soda.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

Around 15 years ago, my dad saw a pitch at our state fair about a pop machine called "Sodamistic." This machine provided the "freshest" fountain soda available. My dad has always been a pop junkie and this appealed to him GREATLY! He bought the machine, the CO2 cartridges, and a vast selection of pop syrups. Our family guzzled so much pop over the next couple of years and my dad was proud of his investment and the money he was "saving." My friends were jealous but loved to come over to have homemade pop---on occasion, I'd put in extra CO2 into the water which felt like it was burning the throat on the way down, but it was just the fact that I could overcharge the fizz in it that made it so "cool."
It was a God-send when that machine broke down as well as the company.
While I carried on my pop habit for another decade, a few years ago, I initially quit because of the waste of calories (I'd much rather eat than drink my calories). I got suckered into the diet pop movement for awhile but never lost weight.
I soon went into the worst health crisis of my life (while pop wasn't the root cause, it definitely contributed to the decline) and started to educate myself on how to live and walk in genuine health.
I'm back to my former self and won't touch a sip of pop---don't even crave it.
I drink a ton of water and will often add stevia &/or fresh lemon juice.

re: Drink Soda and Damage Your DNA

Wow that's quite a sweeping study to make such a claim with know knowledge of what the details of this study were and then everyone jumped on the band wagon as though it is a fact. There have been many other studies that concluded the perservative was necessary to prevent spoilage and was a very non-toxic compound. Don't always believe every thing you hear even if comes from this site.
