It's because most Americans want a quick fix on anything affecting their physical being and lifestyle. I've moved to an "active lifestyle" retirement community (55 and over) and most people here profess to wanting to become healthier, but just sit at home most of the day and night watching TV. I encourage them to at least come out to the ballpark and watch our softball games, or to the tennis courts and watch our matches just to get them out of the house. But, they are too lazy just to do that. We have a great fitness center which is free to residents, but hardly any take advantage of all this equipment available to them. I also try to encourage them to take daily vitamins (I'm a Shaklee customer) but they continue on their fat induced diets. They pop pills which they believe will help them shed weight and get stronger, but do little if any exercising. While watching TV, they get taken up in all the promises made by these pharmaceutical companies about the miraculous changes that can come about if they buy their products. No wonder these companies employ so many lobbyists to continue their rampage on the American public. Most are so gullible.

If you really believe that Eli Lilly spent only $3.7 million on lobbying Congress last year I'm guessing you put out rabbit pellets for the Easter Bunny, and Cookies and Milk for Santa. And I'll bet there is a tooth under every pillow in your house.

In truth they spend more than that a month. The $3.7 million is just the amount that they can't hide and therefore have to report to the folks who are supposed to keep track of such things.

Needless to say said folks have reason a plenty to believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. Who else could be putting all that neat stuff in blank envelopes and leaving it in their Inbox?

Go figure....

The trouble on Capitol Hill is not just Lobbist, but also Career Politicians. Yes Lobbbists are indeed a problem, so if the common citizen on the street cannot afford to have Lobbists haunting the halls of Capitol Hill, then neither should Eli Lilly, or General Motors, or Exxon.

Then some how we must get the message out that we need to get rid of these Career Politicians. There is no need for an individual to sit in Congress, or the Senate, do nothing for say 40 years. When I say do nothing tell me of some grass roots legislation any Congressperson, or Senator has presented in the last 40 years that absolutely benefits the common citizen in this country. All the so called progressive legislation has been only of benefit to these Giant Corporations. And unless, and until the people, the people make their voices heard, on these matters, nothing will ever change.

The Medicare drug bill is a good example of how broken things are on Capitol Hill. Only Big Pharma benefited from that ground breaking law. Which bythe way prohibited, Medicare from conducting negotiations for the best price. What are Americans thinking, because we sat back and allowed things to get this bad, because we are more concerned about what goes on in Hollweird, than Capitol hill. SAD?

I've noticed this for the past week's newsletters.

Imean the first and third paragraph are identical. This staff member needs some coaching on his writing. I don't need to read the same thing twice.

This was awesome information. Thank you. I was a nurse in the emergency dept. for 4 months. Prior to that I worked on a post-open heart surgical floor for a year. I saw first hand how the DRUG companies like Pfizer sugar-coat their way into the hospital; they bring lunch, candy, "party favors"...aka pens, paper, gym bags, scissors, name holders ALL with their new drug of the season labeled on it. It is absolutely disgusting! On top of it they send drug reps that do not know the drug from a sugar cube. It is very frightening because a lot of these drugs have not been tested for very long and the majority have side effects to them-mostly dangerous ones. I recently lost my job, but have decided that I am done with majority of Western medicine. I find that it only benefits pharmaceutical companies which in turn create corporate monopolies, corruption and ultimately very sick and very poor people.
I decided to go back to school, or study on my own about natural medicine. I am really involved trying to fight the New World Order. This cruel game they play with the drugs is part of a Eugenics program/project.

I couldn't agree more. Too many people, including my mother are sucked into believing that the Dr. is always right, and is apparent that the health industry is swallowed up by the $$$ incentives to prescribe lotions and potions, that keep people sick and cause more complicated health issues. Thank you for this web-site...We will be wise to read and question everything.

Why have none of you pointed out that global warm might be do to the moon moving away from the earth and that is fact. They put a thing on the moon that shoots a laser at it to measure the distance but we didn't land on the moon right? :P

this is not really related to this story but...i read an article on dr. mercolas site about giving vit. K to all newborns may cause childhood leukemia in some... my granddaughter came down with leukemia at the age of two and is still in treatment for it..so i was wondering if any of you know anything about this..

I am new to this site and it heartens me to read the thinking of so many intelligent, informed Americans. It is becoming increasingly difficult to view TV with all of the drug commercials. If you weren't ill before you started watching, you will begin to imagine some disorder before the night is out. We mute out the sound, but the images are still there. Is there no regulation to be done to staunch the flow of this insidious message "you are ill and you need to tell you doctor to give you a pill"? And Ron Paul is an amazing politician. Linda Hoy

The flip side:
If a company as big as the pharmas don't contribute to any congress person or highly elected official or government agency, guess what happens? That's right, their product is delayed or somehow denied until that said company shows good will and hires lobby firms or there own lobbyists and contributes to campaigns and the whole Wash DC economy. If you don't think that is possible, think again. Congress knows who the big players are, and they all have to play the same game and show they are contributors in some way or another, they just cannot sit there and let everyone else be the bad guy, so that way we, the uninformed consumer, think it can't be that bad because everyone does it.

The solution remains the same, you must take control of your own health, as the good Doctor daily advises, & do not purchase ANY of these NEEDLESS & HARMFUL drugs from Big Pharma.

Preventative models are vastly superior to reactive ones in safety, cost, compliance, protocol, & net beneficial outcomes FOR ALL.

If Big Pharma has no revenue, they cannot hire lobbyists, to bribe/buy Congresspersons (House & Senate as well as the Executive Branch), who's SOLE intent, in the vast majority of cases, is to protect their jobs, FAT pensions (which start at $15,000 per month for serving only one 2 year term in the US Congress - FOR LIFE), while doing as little to upset the apple cart (pesticide, herbicide, & gmo laden) as possible.

Your Uncle Sam, or it's elected officials, or Uncle Sam's VAST & BLOATED bureaucracy (largest employer in the USA), have no intention of helping you, your family, or your health, when they know & stay in their jobs from those lobbyists keeping them there, hired by the likes of Big Pharma, or any other lobby group who care to fill in the blank with.

Will Rogers remains correct, some 70+ years later: "Why, we have the best government money can buy..."

It is not hard to understand, in many circumstances, why the LEAST amount of government remains the best solution, as with your own personal health & happiness.

In pursuing that freedom toward happiness (& health), may I suggest the founders of our country did not imagine how gridlocked/corrupt our government & courts & tort system truly have become.

Remember, when any politician suggests, or actually implements, a cut, in any Federal program, it's a cut from an automatic annual 10% increase!

Yep, that's correct, Federal budgeting expands no mater what, to increase/protect the non term elected bureaucrats. They win,we lose.
