In our chiropractic office, I thought I heard it all. Don't for get the fact that migraines can also be caused by TMJ or a cervical subluxation.( We have seen some pretty serious medication on set dis-eases, we are not drug deficient!) We do simple manipulation for this. It can take a few treatments but it is certainly worth the effort along with the acupuncture and some really good supplements to support it.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

I've seen many posts here about reactions to MSG and thought I would post a great resource about MSG:
www.truthinlabeling.org
This site lists a huge amount of info on the subject. You will simply be amazed at the lengths the food industry goes to hide this poison from you:
http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html
  -and-
http://www.truthinlabeling.org/II.WhereIsMSG.html

The most misleading way they hide it is by calling it 'Natural Flavor'

Want to really complicate your shopping experience? Try, just try, to avoid MSG. Eventually, you get the hang of it. But it will add a hour to your shopping time when you first get started. MSG is very well hidden. Here are some of the sneakier ones that ALWAYS are effectively MSG:
Gelatin, Calcium or Sodium caseinate, Textured protein, Yeast nutrient, Yeast extract, Yeast food, Autolyzed yeast, Hydrolyzed protein

By FDA definition, all MSG is "naturally occurring." I just waited for the pain to end. Then one day, my Dentist announced that he was sending me to an oral surgeon. My gums were infected so I had "gum surgery" to correct the problem. Ever since then (approximately 35 years), I have not had even one migraine. Migraines are a symptom of a problem. You have to find out what is causing it.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

I get migraines and it's true. You don't want to have a gun in the house. For me, they are often related to blood sugar levels, particularly if I skip a meal. I did try EFT. That was kind of a joke. It was as if I was trying some voodoo spell. (No offense to voodoo practioners) I had no result from it whatsoever. I don't like to take drugs but in extreme cases a tiny dose of over the counter Advil will take away a big migraine. I always have something in my stomach before I take it. The key is to take care of prevention(eat right) so if it does happen, it's rare and I'm not using Advil so much that it no longer works for me. I wonder how many people who accept that caffeine is a "way of life" are the primary sufferers. I know giving up caffeine years ago also reduced my headaches.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

Aunt Boo, its actually a common fallacy that tryptophan in turkey makes people tired at thanksgiving. Its more the fact that they have 3 or 4 courses, plus drinks, plus dessert that gives those post thanksgiving dinner slumps. In actuallity, while 6 ounces of turkey will contain about 500 mg of tryptophan, so does 6 ounces of beef, or pork. So, no you wont have to limit yourself to a diet of turkey to get some tryptophan. What you COULD do is just take tryptophan pills instead of 5htp, as its easier for your body to convert the l-tryptophan itself to seratonin. I have low neurotransmitter levels as well, and i supplement with 1 g of tryptophan, gaba, and tyrosine (all between meals) and it works wonders for me, though i have never had the misfortune of migraines.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

some recognition that ... ad nauseum.... most people are chronically lacking in proper amounts of healthy drinkingwater which if coming thru pipes... needs to be 'cleaned up/filtered by using the 'ultimate drinking water system upgrade'....MULTIPURE..... 1/2 ounce for each pound is general rule of clean thm-less [ DBP's] .5 micron filtered point of use....eight cent a gallon h2o..... www.watercure.com and www.multipureusa.com/elliott3 plus www.NSF.org for third party confirmation... either one has the 'most effective....3rd party confirmed' drinking water system..... I figured its hormonal but noticed they would be worse if my diet was poor and if I had been inside too many days. Migraines are absolutely nothing like headaches. When I would feel the eye pain coming on I knew what I had to look forward to: light sensitivity, dizziness, queaziness, followed by such pain a pillow would hurt and any noise however soft or muted would ring pain in my head and eventually I would throw up then sleep for 3 hours. After that and a full nights sleep I would be completely drained for another day.
Then I discovered FEVERFEW. The next time I felt the eye pain associated with an oncoming migraine I would take it and in 10 minutes feel pressure releasing in my head. Although its not automatic relief it slowly reverses what you are feeling and it never gets worse after you take it. In about an hour the pain is gone. Before I had no hope and just had to go through it. I wouldve rather done that than take prescription medicine although once that pain hits I would consider taking anything. Another thing I take daily is MAGNESIUM. Most people are low on this and Ive read that it helps cut down the frequency and severity of migraines. I was getting a migraine once a month, now a year later I havent had a single one. If you have frequent migraines research Feverfew and Magnesium and give it a try.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

I've found manipulation under anesthesia to be incredibly effective with migraine sufferers. Obviously, it's more invasive because anesthesia is involved, but I've had patients who suffered with migraines their entire life undergo the procedure and maybe get a tension headache 2-3 times a year afterwards, but don't get the migraines. It's important to mention that not everyone is a candidate for MUA... but it works wonders on those who are.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

My husband gets cluster headaches and he found that one of the triggers was eating salad from a salad bar. They spray something (sulfites, I think) on it to keep it looking fresh and crisp. Also MSG
gives him cluster headaches too. Chinese food isn't the only culprit.
You need to be a label reader and also keep a list of the many names they use for MSG such as hydrolysed vegetable protein.

re: Man With Green Blood Shocks Surgeons

I have one migraine per month (down from two) which usually lasts 3 days. I have followed the traditional medicine route of triptans which do stop the pain but have such devastating side effects they are not worth it and, yes, they cause rebound headaches. I stopped all Rx meds when the neurologist put me on Topomax, which not only did not "lessen the frequency and severity" of my headaches, but also made me feel as though I was living in a fog. I had a year of chiropractic treatment, complete with home exercises wearing weights on my head and one shoulder ... sorry, no go. Next to a kind and understanding osteopath who immediately put me on an elimination diet ... but no foods were found to trigger the migraines. She also did a allergen sensitivity blood workup and made recommendations for an acid reducing diet, green light therapy, and rebounding. Good recommendations for overall health, but the headaches are still there.

I read that migraines may be caused by magnesium deficiency, so I started a regime with magnesium and calcium (one works with the other). I was headache free for a month, but they are back now.

Now I read that they may be caused by serotonin deficiency, which our bodies make from Tryptophan. This tracks for me, because I also have a low-level tinnitus (not debilitating, just there) which, as I understand it, may also be caused by low serotonin. Because I don't care to eat turkey at every meal I am thinking of adding 5 hydroxytryptamine as a supplement. Anyone know anything about this?
