It is surprising to see Dr. Mercola shine the spotlight on Dr. Ornish since the latter espouses a vegan diet which encourages consumption of whole grains and legumes. The good doctors do agree on the avoidance of refined carbs and other empty calories.

In all my health talks, I open with: "if you eat like an American, you'll die like an American". At first, my patients didn't understand what I meant. After learning the scary truth about how the American diet is killing us, they get it and many of them make wonderful dramatic changes.

I am grateful to Dr. Mercola for bringing this wonderful information to the masses so everyone can get the TRUTH!

I live and work in the Philippines and it is so sad to see the health of the people here going rapidly down hill. Since the arrival of cable TV (in almost every home) big advertising and fake-food producers have taken the country by a storm. Now, instead of long cooked broths, one can by powder packets in any flavor and have msg, salt and flavoring soups in an instant. The primary food eaten with rice by the poor is instant noodles-- not vegetables and fish, as in the old days. People are becoming obese and diabetes is rampant.

Grocery stores have 5-6 aisles of nothing but junk foods; chips, candies, gum, cookies, crackers and flavored sugar-water. All breads are sweet. Heaping spoonfuls of sugar are added to milk for children so they will like it, after they are weaned from highly promoted formula at age 3. Culturally, parents feel they cannot deny a child food when he asks, and they usually also feel they must give them what they want, so kids come to the table without an appitite because of all the junk between meals. Parents are concerned! Sustagen is advertised on TV as the answer to this problem! Fat children are considered healthy and are used to make commercials for hot dogs and Cheeze-whiz ads.

It is really unbelievable!

This just proves what I have been observing for the past 17 years or so....Czechoslovakia before 1989 was relatively healthy nation (in my opinion) you would not see "wondra bread" in stores just old fashioned bread that it would go bad in 4-5 days because there were no preservatives, additives, colorings etc, etc, etc......BUT I have to admit we did have "bad candies" that had colorings.......similar to M&Ms, our were called "Lentilky" (yes you may guess, they looked like lentils hahah)

After 1989 (when communism was "crushed") the western corporation slowly invaded the east and started to "poison" the markets with their LONG LASTING FOOD............yes I know it sounds like "death sentence" to the west.......but in some way it's true...........
