I have been an active nudist for over 20 years and have never used a sun block of any description. If I start to feel the sun getting a bit hot on my skin, I move into the shade. By the way, I do not have a skin that looks like leather either.

In those 20 years, I have had contact with many other nudists. We all share a common desire to be in the sun as much as possible and only a small number ever use any form of sun block. They too use the “if the sun feels hot, move into some shade” principle. I only know of one case of a melanoma causing a problem. In this case the sufferer died as it was not discovered until too late to treat. He was a very fair-skinned person who was unfortunate enough to burn quickly. I understand the melanoma was located on the back of his neck, just above his collar.

After his death, I asked around the nudists I meet and none of those I spoke to knew of any other case.

re: New Evidence, Sunshine DOES Slash Your Cancer Risk

When I was a kid, my mother hunted me out of the house at every opportunity, telling me that the fresh air and sun was good for me. We never used any sunscreens (the only thing available in those days was Coconut Oil). If we did get sun burnt, the treatment was a cut tomato rubbed over the skin.

During my military training, we were advised that it was "our duty" to have a suntan. This was in preparedness for the day that we might be stranded in a hot sunny area. Incidentally, there were no complaints about this suggestion and most of us went without shirts whenever we could. There was a reminder that it was a “chargeable offence” if duties could not be preformed due to sunburn

You may be able to understand my surprise when 30 years later there is a most aggressive advertising campaign advising everyone to stay well covered if they happen to be caught out in the sun. The population was extolled to wear nothing less than a “factor 15” sun block. The schools took to this campaign in a most vigorous manner as there was extra funding available if the school was to embrace the concept.

After twenty years, it is now being found that most of an entire generation is suffering from Vitamin D deficiency. Whilst the incidences of melanoma, is on the increase. I understand that the recommended treatment for Vitamin D deficiency is a course of Ultra Violet Ray exposure using a Solariarum. I would have thought that this was the very reason for staying out of the sun in the first place as according to the campaign it is Ultra Violet Radiation that caused the melanomas.

re: New Evidence, Sunshine DOES Slash Your Cancer Risk

Picking up on what Dr Mercola was saying about the chemicals in sunscreen lotions/cream, the company Miessence, which I joined, are launching a 100% chemical free, 100% organic to food grade, SP15 very soon. If you are interested in more information or interested in buying 100% chemical free 100% food grade organic personal care products, please visit my website: www.drumcarroworganics.mionegroup.com They are also a carbon neutral company, taking care of the planet as well as our bodies. They ship worldwide too. Thanks for reading. Look forward to hearing from you. Regards.

re: New Evidence, Sunshine DOES Slash Your Cancer Risk

The Environmental Working Group has published an exhaustive study of sunscreen products and a listing of those that are safest and most effective.
