Did you even know they could? This short video tells the story of how they realized animals do laugh , and thoroughly enjoy tickling games. If animals can laugh, then they are capable of the opposite-crying. I have always believed that, just didn't have much to back it up. We just bought a hamster and it will be fun to play with her knowing she may be "laughing" and enjoying it as much as we are!

re: Laughing Rats

When I was a kid we found a baby golden mantle ground squirrel in the
forest out of it's nest. We took it home and nursed it with milk
and it did well. It became a member of the family. It was
an amazingly intelligent and playful creature that I'm sure
laughed a lot. It would ride around in our pockets and on top of
our heads. Whenever we put our fingers to the floor and
wiggled them it would run over and roll on it's back for a tummy rub
with all four legs wiggling like mad in the air. One of the best
pets I 've ever had.
Mine used to chase my hand exactly like the ones in the video! They were always eager to play and would run towards me if they heard my voice and ride around on my shoulder. The level of sophistication in their interactions with me and each other is so human-like it is amazing. I hate fact that they are used in medical research because an animal as aware and intelligent as a rat has a great capacity to suffer.

re: Laughing Rats

When I play with my ferrets they roll on thier backs and this is the signal they want a belly tickle , when i do this they rapidly lick their lips which i interperate as delicious fun!
Ferrets live to play and play to live! The majority of the people in the world can't seem to find anything to laugh about anymore. Overworked, overstressed, overcrowded, fast paced, and poor nutrition, has made people ill-humored. I think It's grand that the people who are taking control of their health, are getting back to a simplistic lifestyle and finding time to "laugh with the rats".

re: Laughing Rats

Dr. Neal Barnard ( Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) sent out a wonderful story once about a pet rat. A lab animal he helped liberate.... the doctor told how the rat kept himself clean and neat, how smart and social he was, and intelligent. Animals have so much intelligence if we can get get in tune with it, which Dr. Barnard clearly did. He changed my perceptions of rats. It was a lovely little story and came in a fundraising drive... which is sort of odd, but I remembered the well told story, it was touching... .

re: Laughing Rats

This post was deleted because it violated our Terms Of Use :
Comment does not pertain to the topic of the article or does not provide value or insight to the discussion.
