As the UK and the USA, I believe are tight on airport security. an interesting situatio arose not so long ago at Birmingham Airport EGBB UK.......when BBC cameras went undercover to check out airport security and the staff who check luggage passing through the scanners.

To their horror, they found that no one was really bothered; some staff were photographed reading newspapers and one making tea while passenger's luggage passed unchecked through the inspection process.

The private company who employed those staff apparently were revealed as having the contract for all Britains major airports.

The program was made, only after one honest member of staff went to the BBC and made them aware of this scandalous situation.

What all of this meant was: A case could well have been loaded onto anyones airliner with nasty substances hidden away and the potential for blowing the aircraft out of the sky was there for the taking.

So much for government security.

What was even more surprising is that the same company is still; it was reported operating in UK major airports unchecked it appears and no one apparently has reported.........yet..........on whether all of those other airports are having their luggage checked safely and properly.

I just wonder what the US authorities are playing at when they are supposed to be liasing with the British while potential terrorist could have had a heyday with disasterous results.

So much for UK homeland security...........it appears to be a farce.

I can only hope that someone in the US reads this and carefully thinks about just what is going on; it is reported in the UK.

First, you should expect each side to have at least a slightly different version of what went on. I read her version, and the TSA's version. Then I watched the video.
As much as I am aware of people in authority , like the TSA, often getting carried away with their power, or not being able to use common sense to make good sound judgment calls for themselves, I can't see how anyone can believe what she said.

Watch the video. Her actions and reactions say it all. Whether it was right or not to have her dispose of the water in the sippy cup, she didn't have to pour it out shaking it dry, and then report that it "accidentally spilled because I was so upset" to get public sympathy. Liar. There was nothing accidental about it spilling. It was clearly poured. ( It is so obvious in the video I’m not scared to stick my neck out and say that.) That kind of belligerent behavior will get belligerent behavior in return…and the TSA didn’t appear as belligerent as she did, by any means. Some of you have mentioned that the TSA’s sense of authority has got the best of them. (Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely) It would appear the ex-Secret Service employee, trying to flash ID’s is the one who’s sense of authority has got the best of them.
Please view the video before commenting, because the stories don’t come close to describing what actually happened…and please correct me if I am seeing something incorrectly.

Having worked in aw enforcement and corrections for 5 years, I can tell you without hesitation that the industry is full of control freaks and power trippers. These people have low self esteem and try to boost it by working in a job that they can interact with people they think are "lesser" than they. If there is no low self esteem present, then they have a superiority complex that is coupled with Machiavellian tendencies. These personalities gravitate toward the "control" jobs; I've seen it too much to think it a coincidence.

I had a better time interacting with the inmates and criminals than with my co-workers. No joke!

I saw another video of this incident, the full video right after it happened. I have to say that in that video, it was clear that she dumped the cup. She did not drop it, she dumped it. She actually shook the liquid out. I am not saying that I agree with the TSA at all, however, this woman is not being entirely honest about what went down that day at the airport. She had her ego bruised, as an ex SSagent, and now she is out to make it look like she was a victim. She was harassed by the TSA, but she made it worse by purposely spilling the water on the floor where others could slip on it. She did this out of spite and anger and as far as I'm concerned, she got what she deserved from that point on!

I am 63 years old and have flown a lot over those years. Flying used to be fun, but now I avoid it like poison ivy (partly because of the TSA Nazis and partly because of the excessive fuel consumption of aircraft).

The security measures at airports are entirely arbitrary and designed to keep the sheeple in a constant state of apprehension. The so-called security agents have the collective mentality of a high-school drop-out. Here is just one example:

My son (6'4", white) was flying alone with no check-in luggage and the only carry-on he had was his camcorder in its case and an octagonal box that contained a tube camera inserted into the foam innards of a bike helmet along with a controller device that was to be used to connect the camera to a tape recorder waiting at his destination. The device he carried could have been used to detonate a bomb. They never asked him to open either his camera case or the odd-shaped box with its peculiar contents. Why? Because they were busy harassing a woman with a toddler, making her remove the tyke's shoes, etc.

The return trip was equally uneventful for him. I wonder if it went as smoothly for that mother and baby...

I have more stories... too many more. And don't forget, folks, that 9/11 was an inside job!

I am 75 years old, have a Scottish name and could never be profiled as Middle Eastern. However, the last three times I have flown within the U. S. I have had to go though the full routine...remove shoes, everything in pockets, all hand carried baggage gone through with a fine tooth comb.

My Wife, Daughter and Grandson just returned from a trip to Japan. They said, that neither they, or any of their baggage was checked or opened at either the U. S. or Japanese Ports, going out or coming in!

I think this is further proof that we are being scammed by the Bush Administration's Homeland (In)Security Department, spending millions of taxpayer dollars checking innocent people, rather that beefing up our borders and ports, stopping potential terrorist before they get in!

My daddy was a bureaucrat. I have deep sympathy for them. My husband is allergic to bureaucrats. I try to stand between him and them. EFT would help both sides, if they'd open their minds to it. Racial profiling is out. If you want to know why, visit another country and experience it first-hand. Foreigners everywhere are always "the cause of all problems" that the authorities and powers-that-be behind them do not want to admit to having a hand in.

Whether or not the woman was agitated and was difficult to deal with. the fact that they threatened a Mom with her baby with arrest over something so trivial as spilled water on the ground shows how many if not all of these agents are nothing but bullies who try to flaunt thier authority whenever they can. I was shocked when I heard this report, but when I think about it, I shouldn't be. people in authority abuse thier power because they can. they're not looking out for the saftey of society. they're looking out for themselves. selfish conceited authorities!

Here is one worth noting:

There is a British Subject working nites as a customs agent for Canada Customs going into Windsor off the Ambassador bridge.

He will cost you about 2 hours as he anally tries to examine your laptop for Pornography. No skills in this boy. He knows nothing about US immigration and their visas. He can find "My documents" may be.

At one time they found some on an American's laptop. Jail, loss of vehicle, record, loss of house, and wife.

There are thousands crossing with laptops. Leave the drive out, or use
killdisk and reload it. A laptop from bestbuy had this on it, and they reloaded it, but it is still there. Surprise to the victim!

Hey, as long as we keep paying the airlines we'll keep receiving this type of abuse and intrusion. If no one flew for one week they'd be seeking "less restrictive regulations" and in a month they'd be passing out "fly for free" coupons. They take our ticket purchases as assent to whatever is dished out by our millionaire socialist Washington caregivers.

I saw this weeks ago on the net....and the behavior of the woman was what got her into trouble.....NOT THE BABY BOTTLE!........

When you are in a situation like that "ACT LIKE AN ADULT" and act responsible......This kind of behavior puts EVERYONE FLYING AT RISK!

Personally, I am glad they are that tough......

The officials were ridiculous and so are the people on this forum who support this nazi mentality. Get a grip for goodness sake! This mother and her toddler were harrassed and intimidated and just because she got stroppy, many people are saying that she deserved all she got!
I just wish a few more of us were as ballsy as this woman. It would be a lot harder for the nazis to take over with a few more gutsy people. Why should we all be subservient and compliant to every demand? Why should we just 'follow orders' submissively? It's time we all stood up for ourselves. I for one am glad that there are still people alive who feel affronted by mindless officialdom. Those who submit to tyranny should be aware of where this leads. We should all applaud this woman and not criticise her for getting irritated and angry.

You say this is "guaranteed" to be the worst? What are you offering to redeem the guarantee? The passenger in here exhibited a mentality similar to the TSA agents, apparently an arrogance of power which in both cases derived from being privileged law enforcement types. The TSA agents imagined themselves above common sense, and the mentally not so "ex" Secret Service agent thought herself above the rules and immune to police rigidity. There was a contest of a**holery, in which the on-duty agents "won" by harassing the impudent ex-agent/passenger.

Some perspective: What about the totally innocent Syrian-born resident of Canada attempting to return to his home, who was arrested at a transfer point in the U.S. and sent to Egypt where he was tortured for months?

Or how about the small group of "Imams", now suing an airline company after being detained an entire day, on the report of certain passengers and airline personnel who perceived them suspicious for dressing and acting, including praying, according to Muslim customs and traditions. Unlike this passenger, they hadn't committed any even trivial infractions of actual rules. The only stick point was whether they should be allowed to sue the putative civilians who fingered them to the authorities, and thereby discover their identities, which would chill civilian alertness.

Although the civilians were part of triggering the incident, but the overreacting professionals vested with authority must be held to decent standards.

I also remember several other reported incidents where Mideast culture passengers were removed after airlines personnel refused to operate the plane with the passenger aboard. I have also read of people put on no-fly lists simply because they were dissident political activists.

All these incidents are worse than the abusive buffoonery described here, which, despite aggravated public panic, still should not be excused.

     When we wake from the drug and video dream that we live in, we will realize that THE TERRORISTS WON. We are afraid of our neighbors and want them disarmed (there goes the second amendment). We depend on police to protect us (and they will never be there when a crime is committed, only after to take the reports). We give up our first amendment (don't say anything offensive) and Amendment 4 (let 'em search anyone anywhere anytime on "suspicion") as long as the feds promise to "protect" us. Amendment 6 went a long time ago, who gets a speedy trial ever?
     "1984" came and went. Who points out that it came to pass? Imagine the uproar if someone suggested that we cut off your drug doses and require individual responsibility of the type that would allow us to be free, really free.
     Obama, woops I mean Osama was just the last straw. Do you feel free. Are you willing to stand up, speak, and fight back if necessary?

Would have made a classic scene for a TSA training video: woman spills water to draw security attention from other passengers, while explosive-laden wheelchair whisks by unnoticed. Gee-whiz, the only thing missing was the HazMat crew....
