I think i'ts been proven a diet high in Omeg-6's can cause higher rates of cancer.. and Trans Fats are deadly.

so if this diet restricted carbs, but allowed any type of fat, I'm sure cancer did increase.. since most people still think vegetable and corn oil is good, and butter and other saturated fats are bad.

re: Do Low-Carb Diets Cause Cancer?

It seems like everyday a new study comes out stating that what was once good for us is now bad for us, what once healed, now kills. I find most of this rather amusing, and the only solid conclusion with 100% accuracy is that we will all die. Since nobody seems to know what the hell is going on as far as what is the right nutritional approach, it seems logical to me just to eat less food. High carb, low carb, high protein, low protein, good fats, bad fats, glycemic index, Atkins, South Beach, Grandma Bertha's Apple Pie diet, and a million other diet books and ideas to basically get rich off of peoples hope of finding this elusive holy grail of nutrition and health that probably doesn't exist. We are screwed if we do, and screwed if we don't.

re: Do Low-Carb Diets Cause Cancer?

LOW CARB can also mean low caloric sugars, like CANCER PROVEN CAUSING MALTITOL, that is also highly diarreha and intestinal bowel distress inducing (as little as 2 grams), and was denied GRAS status in 1994 by the FDA, "because at low ingestion levels in lab animals 62% contract acute bowel cancer". MALTITOL IS NOT NATURAL as spun on the internet, and some fraudulent brands on the market, particularly in bakery, confectionery and bars, continue to hoist this POISON on health compromised consumers like diabetics who should be the LAST folks consuming this toxin.

Other cancer causing sweeteners include, but are not limited to: aspartame (Equal.Nutrasweet), neotame (a suped-up version of aspartame) and sucralose (Splenda).

Read Dr. Mercola's SWEET DECEPTION for all the gory, vetted and empirical, details.

re: Do Low-Carb Diets Cause Cancer?

Ahem, that would be the Rowett Institute – you know, the one that sacked GM scientist Dr Arpad Pusztai for voicing concerns over the release of untested GM crops. A crop research institute couldn’t possibly be biased could it? When you look at the chart demonstrating the correlation between butyrate and carb intake it becomes obvious there is a large inter-individual difference in butyrate levels (i.e. some volunteers had lower butyrate on high carb than some on low carb) which suggests other factors besides carb intake may be important. If you worry about your colon butyrate levels when eating low-carb then just eat more BUTTER (3% butyrate).
