This causes your body to become starved for oxygen. There are several different varieties of anemia.
My mother's doctor kept telling her she was anemic for almost a year
and couldn't figure out why. He thought maybe she was bleeding
internally, but tests showed nothing.
Eventually her kidneys completely failed and then he figured it out. Duh.
Anyway, it turns out your kidneys do all kinds of things-some they
aren't even aware of yet-but a couple things they do is make hormones
that control blood pressure and blood cell manufacture. Her blood
pressure had become uncontrollable also, another hint lost on that
doctor.

After watching my mother spend her last five years going through the
misery of being experimented on or ignored, I decided I will never seek
medical help for anything. If I'm in a wreck and unconscious is the
only way you'll ever find me letting a doctor anywhere near me.
If it can't be cured at home, I'll just die of it.

re: How do You Know if You Are Anemic?

Hi my son has Thalassemia B a result of my anglo saxton blood mixed with my wifes thai blood. She would take off her gold wedding ring and press the side of it against our cheek and draw a line. If it left a black line she said it meant we were deficient in iron and had to finish our liver. If it did not leave a line she would let us leave the table.
I have no idea if that is founded in fact but I was the only member of the family that it left a mark on and the doctor confirmed I was anemic.
Maybe that old wives trick could save some folks some $ on blood tests..?

re: How do You Know if You Are Anemic?

I have a lot of the listed anemia symptoms, but my hemoglobin levels are actually TOO HIGH! The psych dope withdrawal caused these symptoms. It's amazing how long the withdrawals linger. Years it seems. Plus the drugs weakened my heart, which depleted my oxygen (like altitude sickness), which then caused my body to overcompensate by increasing my hemoglobin, but that's just a guess. Doggone lying QUACKS. Never warned me about anything. But I'll get revenge in my book. The pen is mightier than the mail-bomb.

re: How do You Know if You Are Anemic?

Dr. Mercola,
As I understand my condition, none of the remedies mentioned will work for people like me who have thalassemia. Mine was discovered when I became unexplainably fatigued during my second pregnancy. One of my siblings was diagnosed when she was an early teen. Evidently only 1 of our Italian parents is a carrier; otherwise, my sisters and I would probably not have survived into our 20s! My grandma showed me this book called Health Through God's Pharmacy (a book about herbs) and I found an herb called Stinging Nettle. I drank that everyday in the winter time this year and usually I would pass out in the evening when I got home, but I was able to keep my energy enough and best of all I wasn't so damn cold all the time.

After doing some more reading, apparently it's because this particular herb is supposed to be rich in iron. Hmmm? Also, my periods have been much lighter since then with literally no discomfort (cramps).

re: How do You Know if You Are Anemic?

I have found problems with using Iron supplements for one thing, they can cause constipation. Something too many people suffer from already. I think anyone who has been anemic or is anemic should rule out any possible underlying causes such as parasites or low stomach acid. Maybe someone is getting enough Iron in their diet but digestion/absorption/assimilation is still a factor. After all "we are what we digest"!

re: How do You Know if You Are Anemic?

People definitely need to be more aware of iron overload but for most of us, deficiency is the biggest issue. Iron deficiency may be the biggest health issue on the globe. A good test for low iron is a ferritin test -- commonly available from your doctor.

Here's a food iron ebook with food lists as well as preparation techniques (reducing phytates, fermenting, some food combining). For people looking for probably more information than you ever wanted about phytic acid in food, here it is.

re: How do You Know if You Are Anemic?

This post was deleted because it violated our Terms Of Use :
Comment does not pertain to the topic of the article or does not provide value or insight to the discussion.

I've been anemic for the last 10 years, and tried EVERYTHING! Last Nov, I saw this DVD and took action. When I had my bloodwork done in March, my iron had gone up significantly!!

If you really want to do something that will truly change the way you
feel, and step up your bodily health another notch, look for the
following DVD:

GREENS CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE
An Inspiring and Informative Lecture with Victoria Boutenko
rawfamily.com

This DVD has inspired us to dust off our Vita-Mix and begin drinking fresh green smoothies on a daily basis. Here is our recipe:

Green Smoothie

Mixed Greens, handful
Spinach, handful
Cucumber
Broccoli
Blueberries, frozen, 1/4 c
Stevia, liquid-2 droppers
Flax Oil, 2oz
Water, approx.16oz
(Can also use green leaf Lettuce)

Always use as much Organics as possible. Wash all lettuces in water with 4
drops of Colloidal Silver. Place all ingredients into Vita-Mix and
process. Pour up and Drink.

This Green Smoothie has been a fabulous addition to our daily
meals. We eat less because we eat better. It delivers much needed
oxygen to the cells of the body, thereby feeding our bodies on a
cellular level. The taste is AWESOME!!

The Flax Oil gives the drink an overall
richer, nutty flavor, which cuts the 'green' flavor. Blueberries
not only add in the Antioxidant-factor, but along with liquid Stevia,
sweeten the drink to perfection.
Vita-Mixing breaks down the cellulose fibers of the greens so the body doesn't have to. The nutrition/energy starts working much quicker where it needs to be thru my body.

The Green Smoothie will be a part of my daily food intake for the rest of my life.

Hope you enjoy.
E..........
