It is possible, however, for anyone to meditate within the confines of their particular religion, in 2 ways, both of which may be accessed through my website, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 2. The first method involves focusing the gaze on any religious symbol, like a crucifix, or the star of David, or one of the many mandalas linked to on that webpage. The second uses word, or short phrase repetition, such as: "God is love", or "Help me, Jesus", etc. In this way, you can gain the benefits of meditation, with no fear of straying outside the boundaries of your religion, as did many of the early saints. They probably encountered it through interaction with Muslims, when the Moors invaded Spain. It is one of the techniques the Sufi's use, and they, in turn, probably first encountered it in the Muslim invasion of India, or possibly through trade, along "The Silk Road" to China, where Buddhism was popular. Incidentally, you can use "Walking meditation", as you exercise daily, by focusing on a distant point, such as a cloud, thereby multitasking, and I meditate in bed, after lights out, and no longer have trouble going to sleep. You can also meditate during your meal break, if you can find a suitable spot.

re: An Ancient Tip to Improve Your Concentration

For those of us who find the task of learning to meditate too challenging, there are audio meditation programs such as Holosync, which have been shown in scientific studies to create a deep meditative state in your mind without you having to do anything but listen on headphones. It even works if you fall asleep while listening, and puts you in a deeper meditative state than is possible with traditional meditation! I have been doing this program for about a year and am thrilled with the results. Holosync technology is said to work about 4 to 8 times faster than traditional meditation.

re: An Ancient Tip to Improve Your Concentration

But wait!
The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (part of the National Institutes of Health) says that there's " No Clear Evidence Meditation Can Boost Health ".

They funded a study (probably using pharmaceutical money) and concluded that it's probably just not worth the effort.
Too bad, but I bet there's a pill we could take to destress and improve concentrations......;-)

re: An Ancient Tip to Improve Your Concentration

Yes, Cas and fellowservant, you're right on. Properly done and extensively practiced,... meditation is a gateway to absolute healing of the body/mind. ... The challenge lies in whether one is committed and courageous enough to face ones inner demons. My experience has been that most individuals among us simply are not.

I can share with you that the very essence of true meditation is the most profound and simple act of "Letting Go". ..... In the beginning, the practitioner is most often engaged in a struggle with the "mental", to attempt to quiet the inner dialogue. This ensues until one learns the art of simply "Observing" and "Allowing" what IS,... To Be. ..... To simply Observe and Allow,.. is to allow ones consciousness to slowly begin to quiet and open and expand,.. and as a result, the "baggage" that we harbor within the unconscious, begins to be raised to the surface in the process of being cleared from the psyche (body/mind). .... This is the essence of true healing.

Most among us are not aware that the brain is not the mind. ... The mind is an energy field that both surrounds and permeates the body. The brain is merely a "transciever" between the mind and the body. .... True meditation is really closer to our true or most natural, balanced state of Being. .....In the state of true meditation,.. the energy field that is consciousness,.. is allowed to begin to open and expand. This is how true healing occurs. ......... The more that the source of pure, unadulterated consciousness (God), is allowed to merge with the body,... the more that ones being moves toward the state of "Oneness" and "Inner Harmony",.. and that is perhaps the ultimate purpose of this life. To achieve the state of Oneness. ........... True meditation is the path to Inner Harmony and Oneness.

re: An Ancient Tip to Improve Your Concentration

I remember reading an article writen by a woman who had an IQ of 246 (I think every knows who) who said that the key to her outstanding mental ability she atributed to knowing her place in the universe and building her mental world based on that information (not to mention that both her parents were vetry well educated). However this alone is not enough. One must develop reasonable control of his or her own emotional values as well. Emotional control actually facilitates mental skills instead of shortcuirting them. Also when one controls his or her own emotions they control situations where others are drowning.
