Insomnia -- the most commonly reported sleep disorder in the United States -- impacts about 30 percent of adults. Our understanding of it depends on the level of comprehension of the body's structure, the process of metabolism, how everything operates, the systems that interact during physical activity, mental focus, autonomic and sympathetic nervous system functions, sleeping, dreaming, and finer states of consciousness. Digestion and assimilation are a big part of metabolism. Metabolism through the senses is important too. All input affects us. We have to recognize that our DNA maintains the integrity of our whole dynamic system, our physical body. The sequence of the DNA is according to a planetary, galactic and cosmic intelligence. It runs our cells, which make up our bodily systems, determines who we are, what we look like, our tendencies. It is self contained in its structure and function. It continues to replicate, extend its intelligence from one end to the other, adding information, interacting with other cellular intelligence based on the precise sequence of proteins. This sequence carries on cellular existence in the environment of all other cells and systems in the whole body, then in the context of the body's surroundings extending clear to whatever influences us in the farthest reaches of our lives. THE USE OF VITAMINS, SUPPLEMENTS AND FOODS THAT ARE DERIVED FROM ALTERED GENETIC INFORMATION OR ARE NOT EMBEDDED IN THEIR ORIGINAL FOOD SOURCE, INCLUDING PRECURSORS AND OTHER UNMEASURABLE ELEMENTS ARE A RISK, EVEN DANGER, TO LIFE. They oppose the natural sequence of our own metabolism, causing disease and derangement that may not be visible to the common mind. We need to shift our views from beliefs limited to sensory information to more deeply discerned comprehension of how pure intelligence works. This is built into the human brain, human intelligence; we just need to experience it within and cultivate it. Then that vital state of deep rest within and cosmic perspective will prevail in all.

I used it until my body got back into a normal pattern after a period of very high emotional stress. It sure beats the drug-store alternative. I would definitly try other methods first (warm bath, chamomile tea, relaxing yoga, etc.) but sometimes you need a little jump start in the right direction if lack of sleep if affecting your ability to work, play and enjoy life.

re: Using Valerian And Melatonin to Help You Sleep?

My ASD child had trouble sleeping for years. This is a very common symptom in ASD kids. She didn't have trouble falling asleep, but would wake up at 3am bright-eyed and ready for the day no matter how late she went to bed for the first 6 years.

She now is able to sleep through the night most nights, but on occasion wakes up in the night like a lonely ghost in the house. She now seems to have difficulty falling asleep. I tried some guided imagery cd's from the library geared towards children and it is amazing how fast both of my kids fall asleep. I have to also darken the windows with black sheets during the summer months since the sun is still very bright out past their bedtime.

re: Using Valerian And Melatonin to Help You Sleep?

Wow somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed giving everyone negative points!

re: Many Insomniacs Turn To Valerian And Melatonin To Help Them Sleep

Have occasional insomnia, usually during periods of high stress, I have found valerian helpful in allowing me to relax. This is before I heard about EFT. I have not had to use it in over 1 year.

Mary

re: Many Insomniacs Turn To Valerian And Melatonin To Help Them Sleep

I had severe insomnia as a vegan. Everyone told me it was because I'm over 40 and to just get used to it.
As soon as I started eating red meat and fat, my sleep improved tremendously. Using a mask on weekends allows me to sleep past dawn, which I've never been able to do before.
For the rare occasions when I do wake around 2:00 a.m., EFT works every time. The best method comes from Pat Carrington's newsletter and though completely counterintuitive, you repeat "I can't get to sleep" as you mentally tap each point starting with the inner eyebrow. Leave out the phrase "even though". I never make it past the first eight points.

re: Many Insomniacs Turn To Valerian And Melatonin To Help Them Sleep

Be sure to sleep in as dark a place as you can and sleep with socks on Russ! :)-

re: Many Insomniacs Turn To Valerian And Melatonin To Help Them Sleep

Hmmmm, let me sleep on this information, without the need for supplementation.
