Oxytocin Nasal Spray has it's place, but I am seeing it sold cheaply over the internet, and for the wrong reasons.
Oxytocin is a hormone that is produced in the pituitary and released in the hypothalamus. It is a petide that contains a band of nine amino acids. Some children with autism do not naturally produce normal amount of this hormone that helps with human bonding.
My grandson began using Oxytocin Nasal Spray just a few months ago. For lack of space, I will only say that prior to the introduction of ONS, he exhibited very limited social interaction with is NT peers. His ability to relate to other children opened new doors with the oxytocin. His speech, cognitive skills and interaction with other kids has improved about 75%. He is 6 and this summer, he joined T-Ball, takes swim lessons and asked to join the swim team with his younger sis. He wants to run cross country in the fall with his older brother. He can finally "tease" and even "fib" a little ('I didn't do it'). He wants to be included in almost everything, now. Yesterday, I heard him ask his brother to shoot some hoops with him, and last week, he asked me to take him golfing!!! He also was in the chorus of a Community theater play, "Oliver". He did ok!
His school sent us a DVD taken of him last Jan. and Feb. (prior to the oxytocin) while joining a group of typical children for circle time. In these videos, he showed no real interest in playing with other kids. Although he stayed in the group with his aide, he needed help in participation with their planned activities and projects.

That's kinda scary. I can see it becoming like an addictive drug... Constantly on a high of self-confidence. Or bank robbers or terrorists using it before their dastardly deeds.

Again, after reading this article, I began to laugh. This is so UNFUNNY, but I am so frustrated, that, if I do not laugh I may begin to cry so many tears, that, I will be sitting in an inch of water created by my own tears.

I plan on staying healthy and sane. Laughing is so good for the system.

So, what's next ???? You get a speck of dirt under your finger nails and right away it is the lastest disease??

QUICK give me a toxic spray so all my finger nails will FALL OFF. Can hardly wait!!!!!!!

What another drug to treat the symptoms rather than the causes of the problem in the first place. EFT would be a better solution.

This sounds EXACTLY like heroin or alcohol. Stupidest thing I have ever heard. We have drug dealers turning out new kinds of substances all the time, lets not have the neuroscientist and academic researchers pushing their own.

EFT addresses the root cause of shyness or other problems with no side effects.

I agree with ozy ness-it's about the money.

Every time I had a young man come into our practice wanting steroids to "bulk up" I told him one of the side effects was shrinking of the testicles. They never asked for it again....Like to see that on a black box warning for drugs!
