It took me a month to get rid of it then. Now in Sept.2008 I got it again, just while taking Augmentin antibiotic for a sinus infection.I was nowhere near a hospital. I have had it for 5 weeks now. I'm on my 3rd week of Vancomycin, after Flagyl failed to touch it. I am miserable and have extreme fatigue and gut discomfort, still. I was otherwise somewhat healthy before this. I believe it has definitely become a superbug. I'm just praying that I can get over this and get on with my life!!

re: Deadly Hospital Superbug Infections Increase by 22 Percent in Only 3 Months

hey guys,
this is not only confined to the hospitals..i have read that it has spread to the community also.

re: Deadly Hospital Superbug Infections Increase by 22 Percent in Only 3 Months

My father died of C. diff in a UK hospital last year. He was weakened by diabetes and its complications. I do not blame the staff. C. diff can survive as spores ANYWHERE and on any and EVERY surface. One aspect that the (Daily Mail) article fails to address is that C. diff (and other hospital-acquired infections) are changing and evolving in an environment packed with antibiotics and antibacterials that allows only the most resistant strains to survive. The spread of these bacteria is because the bacteria are more aggressive and resistant. The main defence is to guard your health and stay out of hospitals.

re: Deadly Hospital Superbug Infections Increase by 22 Percent in Only 3 Months

Very serious but true. My mother died from C-diff in a hospital in Ireland last November. She had a pin put in her hip and developed a respiratory infection post op for which she was prescribed antibiotics. During her stay in the hospital (2 weeks) she was infected with C-diff and died within two days of contracting it. It is actually stated on her death certificate as the cause of death. We didn't know at the time what she had died from but we were wondering why we all had to wear masks and gowns while she was dying. She had severe abdominal pain with it. So sad to know that this could have been prevented and my mother could be alive and with us today.

re: Deadly Hospital Superbug Infections Increase by 22 Percent in Only 3 Months
