In fact, most babies have already taken antibiotics by the time they reach their first birthday . He had meningitis. The emergency room physician happened to be Chinese and when she talked about the remedies she had tried and her concern about using antibiotics(which with all the hippie types in Cal then was not unusual!) he said to her--Western medicine is not good or bad, oriental natural medicine is not good or bad--it is all Yin and Yang. She learned from this to not throw out the baby with the bathwater so to speak. Ahe continued to nurse her baby though as he was lying in the hospital bed hooked up to IV's and doing acupressure on him. I personally am grateful that modern medicine saved my life as a child (penicillin) but it is unfortunate that they did not teach my Mom how to deal with the side effects of it(yeast overgrowth, digestive difficutlies etc). I had chorea(a form of rheumatic fever). We lived on a farm and had a fairly healthy lifestyle--fresh vegeys and fruit, our own eggs, free range meat, raw dairy etc, played outside all day as weather permitted. No matter how healthy one's lifestyle we can still get sick from microbes. Of Course, anti-biotics are over prescribed--and they don't work for viral illnesses. I choose to use herbs, and homeopathics first and then if all else fails go to Dr for anti-biotics. By the way--two herbs that are rarely mentioned are Usnea and Spilanthes--these are great for many microbes. Spilanthes is especilly good for yeast. They are available form Herb Pharm. Also raw garlic is great for many infections. When my boys and I feel the flu coming on, for example, I make the following concoction: One large clove of garlic, crushed. The juice of one lemon. A heaped teaspoon of organic raw honey. I add these ingredients to a cup and pour hot water over it (not boiling water) Drink before bedtime. All bugs are gone in the morning. My grandson in paticular. I have asked a few doctors if it would be wise to take probiotics after the antibiotics---no, there's no use. I am glad I did it anyway, and I will continue too do so!

My theory on an eairler article...maybe this is why they are wanting to spray the play grounds where kids play today, kill the good soil based bacteria (so the kids can't pick up any that they might benefit from) so the bad bacteria can thrive and send kids running to get more antibiotics due to infection. I tend to believe it is more than just wanting to see the already green grass a bit greener. Just a thought, but it do make sense to me.
