He prescribed glass, delivered babies, pulled teeth and made house calls in the horse and buggy. He had two doctor's bags. One with his diagnostic tools, and one filled with pills. When he didn't know what to give, which was often, he had various shapes, sizes and colors of sugar pills. The little red ones were the most powerful placebo he had. First rule for a physician--do no harm has been forgotten, I'm afraid.

re: Children Should Never Take Over-The-Counter Cold Medicine

I am a bit ashamed to admit this, but when my little girl was young, and the very few times she got sick, I would give her these items thinking that it would cure the illness, not just mask the symptoms. Of course, now I know better.
I wonder how many other mothers also are guilty of this?

re: Children Should Never Take Over-The-Counter Cold Medicine

Kinda scary to think that if they were taken off the supermarket shelf, there would be a corresponding rise of ER visits to get some medication for a runny nose and sore throat.

"The medicines are popular largely because children have an average of 6 to 10 colds each year." WHAT???
