"It never ceased to aggravate me," said Sharfstein, a pediatrician and father of two young boys. They love an acid terrain and simply cannot survive in a more alkaline body.

When anyone in our immediate family begins to notice the first stirrings of cold symptoms, the protocol is, citrus fruit, tomatoes, water, hot rosehip and chamomile tea, hot lemon water with cayenne pepper in it, and sleep. Keep your teeth well brushed, swished and tend to overall hygiene. Do gentle yoga stretches to stimulate the lymph but not to overextend the body. Let the body come naturally back into balance. May take 24 hours or less if adhered to faithfully. :)

re: Children's Cold Remedies Raised Questions for Years

I only read a few comments people wrote about the article, & many mirrored what we here would say. One quoted the old saw: "Treat a cold & it lasts about 2 weeks, ignore it & it lasts 14 days." Except, many of us now believe that ingredients in these things not only don't help, but are factors in colds lasting longer (& contain toxins). The website Doctor Yourself has a lot of good info. He talks a lot about vitamins, especially vitamin C & used it as treatment all thru his children's growing us. They never had a single dose of antibiotic.

One comment at the site was someone who said, "They don't work? How can they say that? When we used them, the children slept & so did the whole family"!

I was in a pharmacy/drug store yesterday. I went in for something innocuous, but walking thru the store to get it was bizarre. I walked down an isle of hand creams/moisturizers. It was next to the section of make up. I thought of all the chemicals in each of those things as i went back. Then, in curiosity, i walked thru the vitamin/supplement isle. I didn't check ingredients, but based on brand names & knowing who owns them, the large majority are probably synthetic (chemicals). Walking out of the store i went down the deodorant isle. More chemicals. (And of course the pharmacy had nothing but chemicals.) I got depressed thinking how many chemicals are in that one store, millions of stores just like it across the country, the companies which produce these items, & how many folks use them without a second thought.

We need a radical mind change in this country about "better living thru chemistry." But it is really a weird feeling, personally, when that happens.

re: Children's Cold Remedies Raised Questions for Years

Sounds like Dr Sharfstein has his heart in the correct place. He saw something that was wrong and is attempting to change it. I would never give my children cold medications unless they had been recommend by their Dr. I did not know they did not work, and I assumed the doctors knew which cough medication was the best for my child, boy was I incorrect. I know more now, prevention is the best medicine.

Mary

re: Children's Cold Remedies Raised Questions for Years

Are there other medications in a similar situation? Yes, yes and yes – you would be surprised to know that many drugs on the market were never tested with the ‘gold-standard’ of randomised, placebo-controlled studies with hard endpoints. If you think this applies only to older drugs you have been misled. The majority of new drugs are not tested to this standard either. By applying the label ‘life-saving’, because they have an effect on soft endpoints (like BG, cholesterol, blood pressure or ‘HIV replication’) big Pharma hides behind the excuse that it isn’t ‘ethical’ to ‘deny’ these treatments to half the study population. As Homer Simpson would say – “HOW CONVENIENT”.[1]

Divide and Conquer!! I can think of a few areas that this could work in! Get creative!

Let’s strike while the fire is hot! Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!!!
