I think there is much more going behind the scenes with China trade than is apparent. I think most of the issues are driven by the incredible US monetary debt with China, coupled with the trade deficit.
These front-page stories about toxins etc, in Chinese products can be distressing. One solution to that is to not buy Chinese goods.
What is most interesting is the possibility that these stories are brought to light in an engineered information war to cover up and mitigate the US debt to China. What better way to avoid paying a debt than to claim that you received defective goods (even if they were defective)?

More and more I stop myself from buying something because it was made in China. More and more it's difficult to find anything that isn't. The American economy is in trouble... unless you're one of the uber rich.

It's funny, I read this article then went for a wander into town. On my half hour lunch break I counted 15 recall notices in the windows of 3 toy shops/retailers.

Scary, scary stuff.

I am furious over this! I have a very artistic 6 year old that I almost bought the Aquadots for this Christmas! And I have an almost 3 year old that sometimes still puts things in his mouth. How can they do this to children. Aquadots sounds so innocent, I would assume it's just water. Yet those little dots look a little like candy. This is so wrong! I'm so glad the recall happened the week before I went out and bought this toy! What is a parent to do?

When I was looking online a couple of months ago at pictures of recalled toys my son came and started placing his order for Christmas!!!!

Guess I'm gonna have to start making toys.

When I heard about this recall last night I was really upset. I had decided to order Aqua Dots for my grandson's 5th B'day in a few weeks. Anyway, it sent me on a hunt for "safe" toys. The news is pretty dismal. 80% of toys sold in the US comes from China. Our best advice to parents is to keep track of the recalls," said Patty Davis, spokeswoman for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the government agency charged with safeguarding the $22 billion U.S. toy industry.
Consumers can sign up for recall alerts on the agency's Web site, www.cpsc.gov .

"You will be seeing more recalls for lead in children's products, but as more testing is done, we anticipate the number of those recalls will decline," Davis said. (Last week, for instance, more than 660,000 lead-tainted toys made in China were recalled, including 38,000 "Go Diego Go!" toys from Mattel).

Parents wanting to avoid Chinese toys altogether may find there are few remaining options, said Don Mays, a consumer-product-safety expert at Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports.

Yes, Christmas is getting closer but I am going to buy books and a load of sand for my kids, I just am sick of all these re-calls from China !!

Does China re-cycle their waste to USA ?
China waste products are painted and re-packaged and sent to USA for $$ !!

Does anybody know how much fuel $$ it cost to ship their waste over to USA ? Does anybody care about all the air and water pollution that all these ships generate going across the water ??

What bothered me about this story was that 2-year-olds were among the children affected. Where was the parental oversight, when children were allowed contact with what was clearly labeled as a choking hazard?

It should be noted that it was the Australians that discovered this problem and none of the high paid governmental protection agencies of the USA. When are our governmental agencies going to get their priorities straight and stop fooling around with raw milk, almonds and vitamins etc.
