There has indeed just been a documentary on tonight in the UK about bottled water and the amount of energy that is used to get it onto supermarket shelves etc. I didn't see it myself but my friend came to my room to tell me about it, and he seemed to be convinced by the documentary. I told him what I thought, that the government is trying to give bottled water a bad name as it wants people to drink water full of chemicals. By trying to get people convinced now, the UK government seems to be hoping that by the time the proposed fluoridation is introduced, people will have ditched the bottled water and reverted to drinking the contaminated tap water. Bottled water is not ideal but for those who find that a reverse-osmosis filter is not an option (for example myself living on a university campus) it is the only alternative and certainly better than drinking fluoridated water. People in Britain need to become aware of what is going on before the government quietly poisons the water. It is not ideal at the moment with the chlorine, traces of pharmaceutical drugs etc but it is about to get a whole lot worse if the government is allowed to press ahead with its plans.

Now I understand why there is suddenly a government campaign in England (fronted by the natural resources commissioner and the environment minister) to persuade the public that "Bottled Water is Immoral" (Telegraph.co.uk article 2-17-08), followed up by a BBC Panorama "documentary" coming up 2-18-08 enttitled, "Bottled Water: Who Needs It?"

Some-how, I don't think Winston Smith would have been surprised at this decision. As well, I was unaware of the calming quality of fluoride mentioned in one of the comments. Perhaps I should go back to using fluoridated tooth-paste.

This has been on the news quite a lot recently in the UK. I think it is absolutely outrageous that the government is trying to force fluoridation on the entire country when virtually all of Western Europe has rejected fluoridation on safety grounds. There are already a couple of areas in England where the water is fluoridated- the West Midlands (Birmingham area) and the North East around Newcastle. I am lucky enough to live in an area where the water supply isn't fluoridated, for now at least. It seems to me that it may have been brought in in these areas initially to enable the government to justify fluoridation across the entire country as comparisons of childhood tooth decay between unfluoridated areas and fluoridated areas are regularly made by the UK government. The figures are quite clearly fiddled, as evidence from other parts of the world have shown that areas where water is fluoridated actually have higher levels of tooth decay. I am hoping that there is going to be enough opposition to this to stop it from happening but most people still aren't aware that fluoride is an industrial waste product and should not be anywhere near our water. If people knew this then perhaps they would realise that the UK government is not acting in our interests by forcing this on us.

Oh I was FUMING when I heard this on Radio 4 here in the UK. I've quietly avoided fluoride for the past few years, and haven't got off my backside and bleated to anyone about it -talk about looking after No 1 - I am mortified. If anyone in the UK can point me in the right direction to make effective rants with supporting material , please tell me what to do - I will definitely harangue within my own limited knowledge, but there has to be other people out there who know the optimum way to go about this, and the right buttons to press???? How on earth can they think of forcing mass medication without consent, and mass medication with uninformed consent?

Amazing with all of the past data regarding the hazards of flouride the Brits would even consider introducing POISON into their drinking water. We've been trying for years to get rid of it.

I've already written a letter to the government informing them that I will be charging my osteopath bills to them, due to the problems to my back and neck caused by having to lug large bottles of water to my house each day thanks to them fluoridating the water. I'll also mention that I don't see this as being unreasonable - they encourage us to avoid using cars; well, I don't have a car so I have no choice but to carry the bottled water myself.

The moment this passes will be the moment I send it. They'll soon after be receiving monthly charges for that exact reason. I spend my life avoiding fluoride and seeking non-fluoridated toothpaste; why would I then want to drink it?

Was not there an article a few weeks ago on this forum that stated that some American dentist are questioning the wisdom of adding fluoride to the water supply, as it can be toxic to newborns. I would suggest to Mr. A. Johnson that he look at the food supply, as the source of cavities, rather than force toxic fluoride upon the public.

In a country, like the UK, where the national budget spent by government is not even known publicly, and taxes far exceed the population's ability to pay by several times, alcoholism is pandemic, and there is little or no accountability for corruption in Parliament, why not take more bribes as UK Health Secretary, for poisoning the clean and pure water system of Britain, to line one's own pockets, under the FALSE and FRAUDULENT argumentation that fluoride will help school childrens' dental care, instead of banning iso-glucose in the food and beverage chain?
