Yes, television (American) has warmed up to the idea of alternative medicine- somewhat. These alternative choices have been around for thousands of years and mostly include the use of proper nutrition and plants, rather than concoctions that stem from these natural cures. The pure & natural choices cannot be patented, therefore are not profitable for manufacturers and drug companies. I feel that the exposure these cures are getting are carefully aimed toward the companies who are now producing diluted versions (concoctions) that cling to the shirttails of these god-made, actual remedies. For example, I almost bought Noni rom a supermarket- until I read the label. It contained less than 20% actual Noni, but marketed itself as Noni. It was very cheap on sale, but real Noni is worth the extra money!!
Be careful with television- it is trying to distort our perceptions of what natural cures are. They are also sending messages that alternatives to conventional medical options are available through the same cast of doctors, lawmakers and high-pressure AMA, FDA, drug company characters.

Big Pharma is bad - we all agree to that. But that doesn't automatically mean that "alternative medicine" is good. Money drives Big Pharma. Money also drives alternative medicine product companies and practitioners. Homeopathy - selling pure water and sugar balls as expensive remedies. Magnets - selling expensive magnets and magnetic jewlery that does not have the desired effect. Not all alternatives are good alternatives - many if not most of them will try to rip you off by selling you expensive but useless products.

The media is strange lately, i saw 5 minutes of the news the other day (i really avoid it almost completely) but they were actually accusing the pill companies somewhat, although the commercials were all pill commercials. Really i think the media just wanted the shock effect, since they seem to be hand and hand all the time.

Some good research on Disney will tell you that this is not a company sitting down to write story lines that are in your children's interest. The bottom line is money. Story lines are written as sexual as they can get by with, with religious themes because as they put it....people are attracted to them...and often with a "fear" based beginning...a parent dying or in danger. When DreamWorks produced Prince of Egypt, they previewed it to dignitaries invited from around the world..
What do you think that was all about??!!!! Maybe had something to do with the extra large campaign contribution Spielberg and associates made to Obama. All so interesting....

I have some vocal "alternative medicine" folks in my area including MDs. However, the bias of the mainstream media really shows when they do get air time. The news clips are slanted towards "mainstream" CDC approved--vaccinate your child and get the flu shot yourself.

Chrisun is right doc. Your frustration does show that you have a good heart. I am one of those people who have totally trusted doctors and their prescriptions. A lot of these worked and the particular complaint I had went away with their treatment. It took a good pal with patience and a lot of time to explain the long term effects of this path. So I sympathize with your patients but I also thank God that people like your good self don't give up.

I have noticed that alternative medicine practicioners do get a reasonable amount of exposure in the local rag in the rural area where I live. All the advertising is local, hence no big pharma ads or money to dictate what they can and cannot publish.

Trust me, I have given this a lot of thought! Until the networks quit excepting the money for adds of poison pharma-drugs, then there hands are tied as far as what they can or cannot say!

When you consider that all the TV commercial time on all the networks are more than half pharmaceutical based a simple truth comes into effect; The drug lords are in control of everything that reaches most people’s daily concept of “what is and what isn’t” in this world! Yes, I know it is there own fault for being sucked into this frame of mind –Or is it? - I have a confession to make! Awhile back I ashamedly must admit for a short time I got so fed up that I said, “I can no longer feel sorry for anymore people that say, “You’re the doc, just tell me what I need” and then wind up in a world of ill health and problems because of this deadly mistake”! I was wrong to say that! They are as lambs to the slaughter and I ask you all to forgive me for not having the compassion that we all need to have for these innocent victims! no crime in the history of the world has ever been pulled off in such magnitudes. It is a known fact that the use of “properly prescribed drugs” and “medical” procedures kill more than 20 times the people that street drugs like heroin and cocaine do! In fact the largest single cause of death turns out to be the medical system itself!

Don't hold your breath waiting for alternative medicine to get too much exposure on TV. If it did, the advertising money for drugs for that program would be gone in an instant.

While I am not a big TV fan I did watch the pilot episode of Eli Stone, and if the show goes as good as the first one I would not be amiss to watching it occasionally. Many times in T.V. shows alterative health practitioners are made to look like idiots, instead of intelligent people who chose a different path.
