I understand the need to medicate when you see you baby coughing and suffering from something as simple as a common cold. Moms will go to great lengths to help their children feel more comfortable. It is sad that this particular mother did not have the right information when she medicated her infant. Now that we have all been informed that these medicines are inadequate and in most cases can even prolong the cough or cold, we mothers can only do so much to ease our children. The only solution I can offer is to give your child (1 or up) a good dose of honey at night to help them sleep more comfortable. Honey is a natural antibiotic and immune booster. Poor lady. My heart goes out to her and her loss.

One thing many people forget or didn't know...

There is no cure for a cold but to let it run its course. The best you can do is to lower the chances of catching a cold or lessen the symptoms of one. They say the best way to go isn't cold/cough medicine, but good old fashioned Campbell's chicken soup, rest, to drain the nasal passages, and gargle water with salt added for throat irritation and/or use it to thin out the nasal passages.

Coughing is contagious, but it's nature's way of expelling the viruses and contaminants.

Banning cold medicine would hurt the industry hard, and they don't want that. The FDA really needs to get tough and enforce a ban.

Thankfully my kids all hated the taste of cough medicine and refused to take it.

I would not have given my infant the 2 cold medicines Infant Tylenol Cold and Decongestant Plus and Walgreen Pediatric Drops-Cough Plus Cold in the first place. Most people don't know they are playing russian roulette with their children by giving them any drugs even if it is approved by the FDA.
