But the economy also affects your health -- and not always in the way you might expect. The data on how an economic downturn influences health is surprisingly mixed. I was very young then (10-13-born there) and there weren`t any playing, but cultivating, harvesting, changing properties-no money involved. We hadn`t any-all savings was down 90perc.-even mine.I had 300 mark before- then 30. But it was the same to all! But we all was healthy.Had to!

re: Can Bad Times Be Healthy?

We've just had our federal election...not much will change up here...yet
Harper is in for another....???? Mercer and Murphy think it will only be 6-8 months before we hit the polls again.

Beegirl and Islander. It sounds as though the two of you have lifestyles that have taken you off the grid...something that I have always longed to do. There is a little nook in the Okanagan (British Columbia) on the side of this magnificent lake that is so secuded and peaceful. Water is plenty, plenty of natural protection, and open area's are prime for grazing. A small community with people who have simplified life and are self sufficient....

Hmmmm...simplified words, simplified thought, simplified mind, simplified life.

re: Can Bad Times Be Healthy?

Bad times have in fact been better for my health!

I saw this coming, as did anyone who was paying attention, and put in a bigger garden this spring. Putting in the garden, caring for the garden, harvesting and canning and freezing the produce, have kept me more physically active than I have been in recent years. Lots of bending & lifting, lots of carrying, lots of trips up & down the cellar stairs! I'm almost finished: I did a batch of pickled beets today and made pork sausage from my half of a pastured pig. And there's still two cord of stovewood to be brought in and stacked! Yep - thanks to these hard times, I'm in good shape.

re: Can Bad Times Be Healthy?

I keep reading that people are worried about surviving the recession, but everyone I’ve talked to says they’ll get by just fine. Granted, they’re all poor or middle class, but as such, I’d think they represent the majority.
So, theories anyone? Alternate viewpoints? Opinions?
