Here in Maine, soda is among the items your food stamps will buy. There's been a movement to remove soda from the "eligible" list, and you wouldn't (well maybe you would) believe the crying and moaning and gnashing of teeth! It's really simple logic:

• Food stamps are intended to buy food.
• Soda is not food.
• Ergo, food stamps cannot be used to purchase soda.

Besides, anyone poor enough to qualify for food stamps should be spending their disposable income on nutritious food and, you know, beer and Doritos and cigarettes.

No name! Thank you -I love curious people! I`ll try to explain the European point of view. I understand it as following: All employees and all employer pay taxes depending on their capacities -in order to support common welfare,healthcare and even some varying kind of infrastuctures like trains,busses ....It`s not that easy to be rich then- but neither to be destituted. It`s all about solidarity between citizens-ideally!
I know that you Americans are frigthened to get in touch with the conception of socialism-but do you know what it is? Tips: It`s not communism!

Anything to learn from Europe or other societies? I´m puzzled! How came! Among the richest in the world but nevertheless! Why not allow a little bit socialism? It`s not that bad! We are not all communists over here! Tips : I never voted socialistically!

The reason children are going hungry is because GMO food does not have the nutritional value that organic food has.
Maybe the agriculture industry should look at that.

It doesn't help to spend money on OREO's, or other junk. A lot of food may be a bit steep, but consider a pound of steak-ums $10 to a pound of ground beef $2. Both are done close to the same time by the time you get everything out. Yet people will not go to the extra effort to get the beef, when you can make it so wonderful with a side on onions and such. Jazz it up with some thyme, garlic, mace, and whatever you want to throw on. Maybe some paprika too.
