The greatest gift we have as human beings is being able to communicate and reason. If we want fewer errors in the dispensation of medications, we as responsible patients and parents of patients need to be sure we fully understand what we are taking or giving to our children, how often it is to be given and how much.

If the doctor's handwriting is illegible, make him/her go over it with you and you write it down in a readable form. Your health is YOUR responsibility.

Another great resource is your pharmacist. Ask that person about the drug you are being prescribed. Ask for the product insert and read it for possible side effects. Educate yourself. Don't stop asking questions.
