Are they like the weevils that eventually show up in stored flour (i.e., there from the outset)? If so, does this then become just another example of the futility of longing for a completely risk-free existence..?

Given the fiasco of what politicized "science" came up with re: hiv/aids, google peter duesberg if you don't know what I am referring to, I am especially reluctant to embrace their pronouncements on the visceral topic of human sexuality. Not that I embrace their pronouncements generally....

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

See this article about the facts surrounding the HPV vaccine.
http://www.eagleforum.org/topics/vaccine/HPV/2008/02-27-08.html

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

Instead of coming out too soon with a risky vaccine, I wish the researchers would concentrate on finding a way to diagnose a MAN with the strains of HPV which cause cervical cancer. I have read that here is currently no way for a man to know if he is carrying the strain of HPV which can lead to cervical cancer if passed to a woman. The strain of HPV which causes visual warts on the genitals is actually NOT the same strain which causes cervical cancer! So a man who is sexually active could be spreading cancer-causing HPV to all his partners and never even know. Scary. One more reason I have always been an abstinence advocate with my children. It can literally save their lives, if they only listen. And I agree with the poster who said we must set the bar high for our children. You warn them strongly against cigarette smoking and drug abuse, right? The same should go for sexual activity, which causes incurable disease for over 25% of the population.

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

The Gardasil vaccine and all vaccines are an example of mumbo jumbo passing for reason. While a philosophical and scientific deconstruction of the vaccine story would take a book (and Dr. Coulter has done just that in his academic masterpiece "Vaccinations, Social Violence and Criminality), the standard used by the vaccine industry and its supporters will make my point.

The assertion the supporters of vaccines make, is that the vaccine will protect against a particular disease. What we want to know is will the vaccine make a person more immuno-competent? We don't want protection from a particular disease or a narrow selection of diseases if the cost is a reduction in immunity and susceptibility against a wider spectrum of diseases.

We have the most vaccinated generation in history and the sickest. This is not a coincidence.

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

Michigan, which was going to be the first state to add the HPV to the mandated immunization schedule, has not passed the house with the bill. Thanks to all who contacted their rep regarding this!!!

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

It's fine to say that cervical cancer is nearly 100% avoidable but in the real world people get sexually transmitted diseases. People have sex without using condoms, they have multiple partners, they have sex before marriage, and married people have affairs.

I'm not suggesting people get the vaccine, I don't know enough about it either way, but you have to accept that relying on people to change their behaviour is not the solution to preventing this cancer.

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

Currently the legislation to mandate this in Michigan is tabled, as there were not enough votes to move it out of house committe. If it doesn't get voted on by Dec 31 the bill dies completely and they will need to start all over. However, all the press has resulted in numerous mothers bringing their daughters in for it anyway. They are not aware of the risks or problems with the research leading to its approval.

A very informative article on the vaccine can be found at http://www.909shot.com/PressReleases/pr62706gardasil.htm but some excerpts are:

""Merck and the FDA have not been completely honest with the people about the pre-licensure clinical trials," said NVIC president Barbara Loe Fisher. "Merck's pre and post-licensure marketing strategy has positioned mass use of this vaccine by pre-teens as a morality play in order to avoid talking about the flawed science they used to get it licensed. This is not just about teenagers having sex, it is also about whether Gardasil has been proven safe and effective for little girls."

The FDA allowed Merck to use a potentially reactive aluminum containing placebo as a control for most trial participants, rather than a non-reactive saline solution placebo.<1> A reactive placebo can artificially increase the appearance of safety of an experimental drug or vaccine in a clinical trial. Gardasil contains 225 mcg of aluminum and, although aluminum adjuvants have been used in vaccines for decades, they were never tested for safety in clinical trials. Merck and the FDA did not disclose how much aluminum was in the placebo.<2>"
""Merck and the FDA do not reveal in public documents exactly how many 9 to 15 year old girls were in the clinical trials, how many of them received hepatitis B vaccine and Gardasil simultaneously, and how many of them had serious adverse events after being injected with Gardasil or the aluminum placebo. For example, if there were less than 1,000 little girls actually injected with three doses of Gardasil, it is important to know how many had serious adverse events and how long they were followed for chronic health problems, such as juvenile arthritis.""

re: Do Women Really Understand HPV?

[:P] I understand the advisories against vaccines that contain mercury.
