Way too complicated to 'happen' by itself. Plus, the T of E is based on the idea that, once that first living cell 'happened,' then it evolved with the addition of viable genetic Information being added 'by accident'. But any Information Theory scientist or Software engineer will tell you that 'Information' as working, viable 'Information' does not come about by accident, by chance. The genetic code is software that runs on a very specific 'hardware' configuration. And Software doesn't write itself, no matter how many monkeys you have pounding on typewriters. The origin of Life is really the problem of the Origin of Information, of self-aware, future-aware information. Information does not come from a vacuum.

Living cells replicate their DNA from one generation to the next with a little DNA factory, which is constructed when the cell is ready to reproduce. The plans for that factory are written into the genetic code, which itself had to be encoded by the factory to begin with. So in thinking about that first cell, it's a chicken and egg problem. That's because the first living cell which came about by accident, also had to 'accidentally' have the plans for it's own creation and reproduction tucked away somewhere inside itself. In this Universe, that kind of careful planning for the future is not a characteristic of entities which come about by 'accident.'

re: The 13 Mysteries of Science That Make No Sense to Conventional Thinkers

The Theory of Evolution is the biggest hoax so far. Let's say I found a watch in the middle of nowhere and told you that, over millions of years, different pieces of metal came together, perfectly, to form this watch. If I told you this, you would say I'm crazy. But, if I told you this is how a animal got here, Evolutionists would call that science.

re: The 13 Mysteries of Science That Make No Sense to Conventional Thinkers

12/2006

This is in regard to point number one of this article>the PLACEBO effect.

The article suggests that the administration of saline (saltwater) is a completely neutral thing, or a PLACEBO, without effect on one's stsyem. One must remember however, that salt is an element and it is necessary in proper levels for good health. The good results that develop from the so-called placebo are actually what results with the supplement of saline or sodium. I am not the only one who holds this view.

For more information on the importance of water and saline..or simple salt water..for the treatment of disease, see the books wriiten by:F. Batmanghelidj M.D. His book: WATER CURES: DRUGS KILL is filled with testimonials from people who have had great success in treating various ailments (arthritis, asthma, back pain, etc..) with simple salt water.

p 241 of his book: YOU'RE NOT SICK, YOU ARE THIRSTY

says...water, salt and potassium regulate the water content of the body...our daily diet does not contain enough salt and we need to add it to our diet.

>salt is a strong natural antihistimine

>salt is a strong antistress element

>salt is vital for extracting excess acid from inside the cells, without salt the body will become more and more acidic.

>salt is essential for preserving serotonin and melatonin levels in the brain.

>salt is vital for the prevention and treatment of cancer

>salt is vital for maintaining muscle tone and strength

he goes on to say..'dehydration..or the shortage of water and salt (saline) supresses the immune system and the activity of the disease fighting cells of the body.'

So, you see, saline is not the placebo>>>IT IS THE CURE!!

S Mongold,

It's far better to admit perplexity and maintain a sense of wonder, than to pretend everything falls within our circle of certainty.

I enjoy seeing when theories don't correlate to observed phenomenon, when beliefs often seem to contradict each other, and that our puny minds aren't made to grasp the immensities of our universe.

There is so much to learn. The tragedy is when we think we own all the answers and explanations, and so fail to keep growing.

Some of these conundrums we may come to understand and some, never. As for homeopathy, I have to admit to skepticism, possibly placebo effect at best. If water has memory, as homeopaths claim, then just imagine what "memories" are in every glass of water we drink. That said, if a treatment works for you, and you swear buy it, I think that is great.

re: The 13 Mysteries of Science That Make No Sense to Conventional Thinkers

I'm not personally familiar with the concept of cold fusion, so I can't comment. I couldn't really care if it happened to be real and it shared the same skeptics as alternative medicine though.

As for homeopathy, it exists as a discipline, but that doesn't mean it works, or that it is scientific or based on real cause and effect in any possible way. Homeopathy is at best the art of mastered placebo.

re: The 13 Mysteries of Science That Make No Sense to Conventional Thinkers

The more I learn, the more mysterious our universe becomes. I am truly humbled.

What baffles me is how you can have even posit that God does not exist... whether you hold to Intelligent Design and Evolution (both have strong arguments for them and I don't are mutally exclusive) it doesn't matter... nothing comes from nothing. We are so little, yet the pinnacle of creation. Man is a microcosm.

What a wonderful and mysterious world...

re: The 13 Mysteries of Science That Make No Sense to Conventional Thinkers

I live in Kansas, where the Board of Education was ridiculed for wanting to allow Darwin's theory of evolution to be taught critically. Kansas was the butt of many jokes, implying that supporters of Intelligent Design did not believe that things evolve, or change over time. Of course we believe that. The definition of evolution that we do not believe is Darwinian evolution (macroevolution), which says that fish transformed into amphibians, amphibians into reptiles, and reptiles into birds and mammals, with humans having the same ancestor as apes. Bacteria developing resistance to antibiotics is microevolution.

A few of the facts that deflate Darwin's 150 year old claims are;

1. According to the fossil record, we see that animals first appeared suddenly (the Cambrian Explosion), not gradually over a long period of time. And they appeared fully formed, with no evidence of ancestors.

2. It is impossible for a reptile to transform into a bird by natural process because they have completely different breeding systems, bone structures, lungs, and distribution of weight and muscles.

3. There is no evidence of a "prebiotic soup" in which life apparently originated when all the right components "came together".

In the book The Case for a Creator, by Lee Strobel, the evidence of Physics and Astronomy show that "just about everything about the basic structure of the universe is balanced on a razor's edge for life to exist. The coincidences are far too fantastic to attribute this to mere chance or to claim that it needs no explanation. The dials are set too precisely to have been a random accident."

Intelligent Design may have religious implications, but it does not depend on religious primises.

re: The 13 Mysteries of Science That Make No Sense to Conventional Thinkers

That's where the danger lies. If we all become linear thinkers as society would like us to become as opposed to multi-dimensional meandering thinkers we've acheived the lowest low possible as human beings. Then we don't stand a chance for any sort of ascension. All the great Masters knew this, that is why they were persecuted. The universe indeed poses many unanswerable questions. Belief in God
may not provide scientists with the answers they seek, but it sure can
relieve us of the pressure brought on by our inability to
answer all things purely scientifically. Life's mysteries actually
create for us a more interesting existence. The ongoing search of truth
should never end, but it should be persued with the realization that
the search has no end.
