I have one of the front load washer and dryer, and it's a love hate relationship with the washer.

The dryer works nicely, but the washer sometimes doesn't spin the clothes out, it tries but barley does anything so they are very wet and I have to keep tring to rinse and spin again.

I was told it's because I need to use only HE high efficiency detergents. They are very expensive. I did switch to the HE detergents but still from time to time it won't spin them out.

I love the fact that the ones I got, we were able to buy the stand they sit on, and with my back, this was great as I don't have to bend way down to get the clothes out.

Don't worry about the door popping open, there's a locking mechanism that locks the door shut so you can't open it until the washer tells it to. This is the least of my fears.

I love technology only if it doesn't hurt people. Can you imagine doing clothes still in those ringer washers? Well I wouldn't want to, when I was little my mom had to use one of those things. They are a lot of work and use up far more water and energy.

Nano particles or not, I would not buy a waher or or or any other product from a country that routinely tortures dogs--hundred of thousands annually--as part of its culture--namely Korea.

We purchased a front-loading washer & dryer 2 years ago. At the time it was the Sears TOL and I am well pleased with them. My choice was based on a. front-loading & higher base because of back problems; b. less energy & water usage; c. good reviews on the effectiveness of the washer & dryer. Sears recommends the use of a HE detergent; lower sudsing. I'm very pleased with the cleaning results. The washer does have extra settings, one in particular for sanitizing using a built-in water heater to heat up the water to higher temperature. I've been doing laundry for over 50 years and have found that there is no substitute for hot water and a hot dryer for taking care of "bugs," especially during the cold/flu season. If your back allows it (mine used to) the old-fashioned clothes line is also a helpful alternative. These are simple solutions but they work very well. There can always be a place for PROVEN techology in the home but the experimental stuff still belongs in a lab somewhere.

As for the front loaders, they really have proven themselves over the years and with better gasket seals made from some of the newer materials, they are as reliable as any top loader with the addition of better cleaning capabilities. With the lower water usage, if they do spew out, there is less water to clean up.

I believe the fear of silver nanotechnology ought to depend upon specifically what product you are talking about. All silver nanotechnology is not bad. I am confused. Dr. Mercola; are you against using silver to sterilize microbes, or just when it is used in conjunction with nano technology?

It is my understanding and also my experience, that silver is a very effective antibiotic that has been shown to kill over 650 different germs. It has been used for thousands of years to purify water and is still used in Ayurvedic medicine and even in Indian food. The Russian astronauts used it to clean the air in their space capsules etc. I myself, have taken ionic silver for many years with no untoward effects, although I would not recommend eating pre 1964 dimes etc.

Though technically a heavy metal poison, it is not even close to mercury amalgams or fluoride in the water. Sooooooo... please clarify what exactly you are saying about this wonderful metal that has been a blessing to humanity for centuries and a real threat to the FDA for only a while. Thank you.

Electronic and electromagnetic tehnologies continue to be a source of backround radiation, and/or frequencies, of vibration, and long term potnetial toxic exposure to humans, whether high voltage lines, cell phones,wifi zones, or alas, now washing machines...

It's like the quote about nuclear energy being a dangerous, if not potnetially multigenerational toxic, and VERY expensive, way to boil water.

I used to be in love with technology. I thought it could solve all of our problems. Then I saw the results: all my friends were getting sick, and the authorities were in denial. Then I thought technology is neutral--it can be used for good or bad. So try to push for good uses. Now I see no response to a lot of people's efforts to address abuses. Now I view technology like communism--nice on paper, but don't mix it with human inclinations! One of many things I thank Dr. Mercola for is teaching me how many of the products I used to think I needed are unnecessary. My life is simpler. I'm taking a big step backwards and I'm very happy with it.

I have no desire to use one of those fancy washing machines, my luck the seal on the door would fail and I'd have water all over the place. I believe they have to use a special detergent too.

I agree that technology moves in a way that even our minds (at least mine) can't keep up with it. Everytime you turn around something is faster or promising to save you tons of time.

What's the big rush people? As an example, I don't have a problem if my computer takes 5 seconds to download something, I'm not going to run out and buy one that will do it in 2. I don't need "speed pass" when I get my gas, I'm perfectly content walking into the gas station to pay.

No one just drives their car anymore, it's a rolling super computer/office/media room now. No one sits at a light "just thinking" anymore either, they're busy doing things, you have to "beep" them along. You can almost feel the "rush and hurry" in the air wherever you go. Oh I could go on.

People hurry to get home to dinner and they have nothing to say because they all stayed "in touch" on their cell phones. What is this world coming too, I ask you?

The logic behind this kills me. It is the same rationale for adding fluoride to the water supply to strengthen the enamel on our teeth. What toxic effects does fluoride have on the remainder of the body?

Bacteria in the laundry are not a problem. I would like to see the epidemiological numbers on the number of people harmed per year by bacteria infested laundry. The marketing industry has made people so afraid of bacteria that they are willing to purchase anything that makes their world more sterile.

My rule: if nature (bacteria) are trying to consume you, it is time to make some lifestyle changes.

I agree with Dr Mercola that technology can be a double-edged sword and needs to be used carefully. We need to be sure that any tecnnology doesn't do more harm than good before approving it with our purchases.

One group that has done a good job of keeping an eye on possible harmful developments from technology is the Environmental Work Group. Groups such as this deserve our support to help keep industry in line in working toward our benefit instead of selling out our environment and health for the sake of profit.

Our universities are turning out way too many scientists. And they are thinking way, way, way too far outside the box.

They'll come up with a "better"way to sanitize a toilet, without regard to the environments into which that toilet's contents are ultimately flushed.

Maintaining a sanitary toilet is not that complicated folks.

It is somewhat sad what is happening to our society. First you have to watch out for food, then cleaning products, etc and now a washing machine. It just goes to show you that with all the advances with food, drugs, supps, cleaning products, hygiene products and so forth, little is put into the effects it has on humans. The main goal is productin=money!
