After a few months, I decided to have a soda just for a treat. It immediately filled me with gas, gave me hiccups, cramps, and my teeth started hurting.

Now it's even more clear why I stopped drinking that stuff. It's amazing what we can be accustomed to! Yuck!

re: One Fourth of American's Calories Come From Soda

The Amierican CRAP diet:

It is just as addictive to the brain. Water is pretty much the only thing our body was designed to drink. Juice is just sugar water, fruit drinks are just a cup of sugar and so forth.

re: One Fourth of American's Calories Come From Soda

When I got on my healthy nutrition kick three years ago, I had more than a sweet tooth…I had 32 of them. I loved anything chocolate. Although I've never been a huge soft drink person, I did order a "Biggie" size coke or pepsi whenever I'd frequent a fast food place.

I started to drink only water or unsweetened tea or black coffee with my organic meals. I was amazed at how quickly I becamed totally weaned of the sweet cravings…about 2-4 weeks. Those things no longer look or smell tempting to me at all. There have been times that I'd try a candy bar to see if I'd been missing anything.

I realized what I'd been missing is not a sugar high, but a sugar "low." Within a half hour of eating a candy bar I would become very sleepy and lethargic. That downer would last about 2 hours. I guess I never noticed it before because I was previously always tired throughout the day before my health epiphany.

I hate the effects of sweet stuff now, and will never again eat it. In fact, I no longer even care for good natural sweet stuff such as organic honey, syrup, or even stevia sweetened stuff. (I keep stevia around for guests who want sweet tea or coffee, and I refuse to keep any sugar or artificial sweeteners in my home). The natural flavors of fruit and vegetable are satisfying by themselves.

re: One Fourth of American's Calories Come From Soda

Once again folks, HFCS alone is not the only chemically refined 'fructose' to avoid at all costs...other phony and deceptive labeling includes: crystalline fructose (NOT from fruit, nor metabolized to blood glucose like levulose from fruit), agave (hydrolyzed HIGH FRUCTOSE inulin deceptive and criminally mislabeled), chicory (ditto), beet (ditto), inulin (ditto), modified corn starches, corn maltodextrins corn syrup, glucose syrup, organic corn syrup, and corn syrup solids.
