If you want an interesting history on the quest for oil (and what is driving the current gov't policies) try reading a book by Linda Mcquaig called "It's the Crude: Dude". She is a jouranlist. It provide a fascinating history lesson and allow anyone to see the current situation in relation to the history of obtaining oil.

How about let's look at the cost of NOT fighting this war:
Radical Islam takes over Middle East , Europe, Africa, most of Asia. Women lose all rights and became chattel property of men. Anyone who disagrees with is Islam is put to death. Islamofiscist get their hands on nuclear weapons and use them without fear of retaliation. America is totally surrounded by fanatics whose aim is our destruction. How much do you think it would cost to get rid of the problem later as opposed to eliminating it now? There are always people willing to hide their heads in the sand and do nothing until it is too late, then point the finger at the people who wanted to solve problems early and cry "Why didn't you do something?". People who refuse to fight for their culture are ALWAYS KILLED by those who are willing to fight. It distills down to this: Do you want to be a victim or do you want to a victor?

The Iraq war was, and is, an unnecessary act by our government! The "facts" that made us agree with our president for going ahead with the war, in the first place, were just a bunch of distorted lies about weapons of mass destruction, etc. The result of this war is that over 3000 American soldiers have died, the oil producing contries "hate" us and have therefore raised oil prices to the point that we can hardly drive our vehicles or heat our homes, and has virtually bankrupted our country. Our government will ALWAYS lie to us to get what they want! The worst thing of all about this war is how our "rights" are being taken away with laws like the Patriot Act 1 + 2 and the emerging "police state" which is energing all in the name of National Security. I do feel sorry for the folks that have beed brainwashed into supporting this unnecessary war. J. Kitchen

We blew it. On 9/11, the whole world held its breath and we had an opening to step in and do something truly different. Imagine what the world would be like if we spent 350 Billion dollars on alternative energy research and alternatives to petroleum products? The world would be breaking the doors of America down to buy the technology.

I agree with "royed" who opined that your "Vital Votes" site should stay true to only the health and diet field. God knows that, even within the field of health and diet, there are more than enough controversial issues to be discussed without "going off-topic" and bringing up things like the Iraq War, the federal deficit, and other "off-topic" issues that occasionally crop up here on this site. IMO, the Mercola Vital Votes site should just stick to what it does best: getting people to talk about important issues regarding health and diet.

Dr. Mercola is a very educated man. He does his research and knows what he's talking about unlike most of the commentors. If his health veiws are accurate then his polictical veiw would most likely be accurate as well. I appreciate his political view as well and urge him to continue only to educate the ignorants. I am much more interested in how much all the entitlement programs are costing us. How much more could we put into defending our country if we weren't paying out entitlements? My future is being syphoned away by all the nickel and diming that goes on in Washington DC. Lest you think I am a knee jerk reactionary, I will point out that I was raised by a single mother with only a high school education. She received not a single cent of government money in the form of food stamps or other programs. She did it on her own (with minor help from family) AND put herself through college. As for sacrifices, I am willing to forfiet my social security benefits to see the program overhauled and dismanted. The government SHOULD be paying for the defense of our country. The government SHOULD be paying for infrastructure. Let the PARENTS educate, feed and clothe their children, let the grown ADULTS save for their retirement, and let the GOVERNMENT protect it's citizens. Also, I know the sacrifice personally of the war as both my husband and brother have spent mulitple tours in IRAQ. Seems to me the people who are LEAST affected by this war are the ones who are most vocal about it.

its amazing to me why anyone in thier right mind would want to be president of this country. just think how you would feel if every time you went to work doing whatever you do you were attacked, belittled, etc. at every turn. every time you speak your words are dissected. your family talked about and on the front pages of newspapers for every minor infraction. no matter which president is in office the other party is constantly trying to undermine every decision he makes.. just how can you do your job with this constant stress? i watched as reagan was thrown to the wolves for trying to fight the cold war and soviet union.. and then it was clintons turn and watched how the other side dragged him thru the wringer with impeachment trial. now its president bushs turn to go thru the wringer. its ok to disagree with our leaders, but politics should stop at the waters edge. we are supposed to be one nation. no wonder radical countries think that we are a "paper tiger" they know that divided we will surely fall.

I must admit that I've never understood why "certain" people aren't allowed to state their opinions on "certain" subjects. ALL celebrities, I am told, should NEVER EVER state a political opinion, HOW DARE THEY. I would sincerely like someone who feels this way to explain WHY. The blue collar guy can call up Rush and give his opinion to millions of people every day and I don't hear anyone complaining about that. Now, Dr. Mercola, is ONLY supposed to talk about health issues. I don't agree with EVERYTHING that anyone says, but I certainly give them the right to say it. It is a waste of time telling someone to apologize for stating an opinion; you can certainly debate that opinion but, and I know this is rough, but you are an idiot for expecting an apology.

The test that never fails for me is to ask the people who believe Bush should be able to keep making these preposterous decisions is one question: Would you be saying the same thing if Clinton was President and had made the same decisions that Bush has made?

I think we all know that Clinton (and believe me I'm not a fan) would be have been castigated endlessly by the same people who are saying we must stay in Iraq, we must WIN, or "THEY" will come over here and take over our cities. "Taking over our cities" is always good for a good laugh. So we build ALL these nuclear weapons that can destroy the planet many times over; huge Navy, best Air Force, CIA, NSA, blah, blah, blah, etc., but somehow a band of terrorists are going to be allowed to just come right over and sweep from Maine to California; before you know it no more Super Bowl and we will have to get used to camel races. God, are people truly this STUPID!!!!????

I am a long term subscriber and follower of Dr Mercola"s medical views but take issue with him stepping out of his area of expertise into the political arena.
May I remind him that millions of our forefathers have paid the ultimate price protecting America's freedom.

There is no price too high for freedom. Just ask someone who doesn't have it.

The media is the ultimate deception. The drug companies have used them well in their deceptions and now the media has you in their continuing deception.
