I first found out about this from an article in my local paper. I was disgusted by a comment by a vet who said (paraphrasing) "we all know many people are incapable of feeding their animals properly, so they should give them drugs to cure the weight gain (despite bad side effects)". How ridiculous. Just feed your animals the proper portions (not all they can eat/beg for), and more meat/less grains (than typical dry foods) for cats and dogs.

Okay, I'm gonna be the weirdo here. We had a cat a few years ago, a young male, and we went on vacation and came back a month later and our cat, who was fending for himself (lots of mice) was grossly obese and had such an outrageous appetite he'd bite us if we didn't respond to his howls for food. Later, he started losing weight, and my husband thought it was probably diabetes. Sometime after that he disappeared. There were no rumours among the neighbors. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't help suspecting environmental factors. I'll admit, the adulterated food they sell us is one factor, but there are others.

A diet pill for dogs is one of the worst things I have heard of yet!

Dogs get fat when their owners overfeed them. Even on a healthy raw diet as my dogs are if I didn't measure their food carefully they would gain weight too.

We are apparently entering a new era,
-before the final testing phase of a new productline was done indoors and costed money
-here they make money on the final test-phase for the human diet pill using the future-customers very own dogs! Great advertising/marketing to prapare the market for the human version.

Like humans, when animals are placed on the proper diet, they would not get fat. I am a pet sitter and a life long full of wonderful animals in my life. I can highly recommend certain foods that will assure your pets a long , healthy, slender and long life. My animals are thriving and so are my clients animals, that is those who listened to me. I have 2 college degrees and many years of experience with the proper diets. You no longer have to strave your animals.

My comment with convenical anything is this, stop killing us all for your profits. All of our lives are worth more then money.

With breeders keeping some lines very pure and yet new owners ignoring the animals actually have a "job" they need to do to stay fit and "calm", it is no wonder we have "obese" animals. Thank goodness they haven't come out with a cola for cats or juice drink for dogs. Or have they?

More and more people are buying pets. These people work more and move less and their dogs are products of that. People can't even take responsability for themselves and then they go out and adopt a dog?

Smart by the Rx companies to make more money with the ever growing obesession with dogs these days. I am not saying I agree with it, since it just takes more walks, less food, better quality food and more time on the owners part to help the dog loose weight. But a very creative way to make more money!
