Based on a five-year study of some 5,000 patients, those who were age 50 and older doubled their risk of broken bones when taking

re: Antidepressants Accelerate Baby Boomer Bone Breaks

My 66 year old mother has been in a rehabilitation center for acute psychosis for the past 18 months.
She had a severe spinal injury in 1968, to alleviate the volume of pain they performed brain surgery on her. They burned the part of the brain that receives pain from the injured area (stereoptaxis).
Over the years the pain has returned, she went to a pain clinic about 3 years ago and was put on a pain cocktail, which caused her to have psychotic episodes, so they put her on an anti psychotic medication and it became worse so they added another, when I finally realized what was going on and got permission from my step father to check her out of this facility they had her on 11 different medications 4 of which are for bipolar disorder, manic depression, schizophrenia etc.
While in their care she had fallen and broken her hip, it was a slight fall but with all the medication she had no chance. With the supervision of a reputable doctor she has been weaned off of all but the pain medications. And suprise her acute psychosis is gone. It is amazing what some water and proper nutrition will do.

re: Antidepressants Accelerate Baby Boomer Bone Breaks

I think it's more likely that SSRI users are just more likely to fall due to side effects.
I also want to express my concern about the natural neurotransmitter therapy that is making the rounds of naturally-minded physicians eager to help depressed patients. The "targeted amino acid therapy" that is sold (in very expensive bottles) based on the results of a urinary neurotransmitter test might be just as dangerous.

We don't know. Maybe the altered neurotransmitter levels are a reflection of some other imbalance that needs to be addressed. Manipulating neurotransmitter levels (even with "natural amino acids") can mask things just as well as SSRI's.

I had a patient that, after 3 months on such a therapy, proclaimed that while her depression was much better, she just felt "dead inside." All turned out well because we abandoned that course of therapy quickly and used her own innate healing ability to identify and balance the underlying causes.

Good nutrition + respect for the patient's innate = depression gone.

re: Antidepressants Accelerate Baby Boomer Bone Breaks

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Big Pharma can do it better!
