I just received it Monday. Anyhoo, watching the video really made me mad. There are always negative things in the newspaper about Wal-Mart, but I don't always pay much attention. This time I vowed to stay away from Wal-Mart and shop at Krogers. I really don't want to have to drive miles and miles to grocery shop and there are two Krogers that are within a few miles. Tom Thumb is the only other grocery store close by, but they're pretty high. Yesterday we went to two Krogers to try and complete our grocery list. Generally Krogers will have a new item long before Wal-Mart does and they more often have a better selection, but yesterday it was pitiful. I couldn't believe how skimpy the meat selection was and some of the produce wasn't anything to brag about. I have several things that I feel I can't do without, but Krogers or Tom Thumb doesn't carry them. I feel that I'm going to have to eat crow and at least go back to Wal-Mart for the few things I can't find elsewhere. I've made the comment that if money was no object, I wouldn't shop at Wal-Mart, but now I'm not sure.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

Ok, I don't get it. I find it difficult to believe that one chain can bring down America. There are Mom & Pop stores all around the Walmarts that I have seen, and shopped at. It takes a little longer to check out there, stuff isn't first class but hey, if I want 1st class I'll shop where I can get it. It's about choice. You want to advertise what you perseeve as unfair labor practices, ok, you did that. Now I (and everyone else in America) can choose where we would like to shop. If someone can beat Walmart's prices let me know, I'll check it out. At least Walmart is hiring people. K-Mart couldn't keep up and they are closing down and bankrupt. If there are truly billions of dollars to be made, someone else would be doing it and maybe choosing to have their workers unionized and give better health care and STILL make billions of profit. Maybe some of those who are complaining could start their own business and do just that..... instead of blaming a chain of stores for the errosion of the country. The bottom line here is choice. I know what mine (still) is.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

To the person who has to park 10 minutes from the door...you must have a VERY popular Wal-Mart. I normally make it to the door within 20-30 seconds. Wonder why that is?

And to the person who claims that Wal-mart will run other businesses away and then they will raise their prices after the competition is gone...Wal-Mart opened in 1962. Why haven't the prices gone UP dramatically as the writer suggests, after 45 years and we're still waiting for Wal-Mart to get expensive??? Come on.

The people to blame for allowing companies to get products from China in order to save costs are not the businesses themselves. They're just trying to make a profit. Profit. Now there's a scary word. Where you work, do they intend to make a Profit? The people to blame for not making China tow the line are those wonderful politicians we keep re-electing to Congress! We have ONLY OURSELVES TO BLAME!

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

I have tried to avoid WalMart at all cost, though it is sometimes hard with it being the only store within an hour to get some items.

I take offense at people saying the hate WalMart crowd is just envious or anti-capitalistic. My WalMart story was personal experience, as I worked for a competitor trying to locate in a town where WalMart was already. I was privy to the deal that WalMart forced the competitor to sign saying the would let WalMart sell image items (those are the comparison shopped items in the industry) for less OR they would run the business out of town by selling everything at below profit, supported by the big WalMart money, until the retailer I worked for could no longer survive and had to close their doors.

Well, our management signed the agreement (which would never have been binding in a court of law, but was more a threat levied by the WalMart conglomerate to keep us in line). Why? Because already much money had been spent on the expansion into the area. To not sign it or agree to it would have been a waste of the money already spent.

WalMart knows the populace will shop price and not consider the future. They may save 10 cents today, but it will cost them 1 dollar more down the road, when the competition is eliminated. But, the customers only see the short term. WalMart banks on that.

I also know personally one of the young people who was being asked to work off the clock. He quit after realizing he wasn't being paid as much as he was supposed to be - managers were supposed to "adjust" the hours for him even if he didn't clock back in. They never did. . .

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

As a conservative (not necessarily Republican or Democrat) American, I believe in Free-Enterprise (not Capitalism - which is a close cousing to Socialism and Communism). As such, WalMart exemplifies Capitalism in every way - with a polit-bureau of corporate proletariat, dictating the very life-styles of all of its employ. This has nothing to do with true economic freedom (as exemplified by Free-Enterprise). In fact they are the antithesis of free economy, by not only keeping their employ in feudalistic surfdom, but by also having as their goal to wipe out any and all competition on the local level.

It is the small (un-centralized) "mom and pop" type self-sufficient businesses that have made this country the economic powerhouse of this planet. WalMart is systematically destroying that. As a result, Americans should be prepared to either boycott this behemoth, or suffer the inevitable decline of this nation.

The choice is yours.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

The issue is not that people are anti-profit or anti-capitalist. The issue is that Globalisation is driven by Corporations that are driven by one motive only: to make more profit every year. Multinational Corporations have all the personality traits of a psychopath as defined by the DSM (the manual that shrinks use). They care nothing about the environment, human rights and the health and happiness of their employees and customers. It has often been stated that the only job of the directors of a listed corporation is to make a profit for the shareholders. Most directors take that job description seriously and get rewarded handsomely for turning a blind eye to the serious environmental and social abuses that their organisations participate in. Corporations have the means to lobby elected representatives and they provide most of the funding for those people running for office. In other words, they buy influence. So Congress ends up passing law after law that favours the Corporations and reduces the rights of citizens. Eisenhower warned about the "Military-Industrial Complex" and the results can be seen right now in Iraq and Afganistan.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

I worked in our new local WalMart SuperCenter just a few weeks during the 2005 Christmas season. Hired on as part-time temporary. I left before the temp time was over as being a cashier my feet were bothering me from standing even though we all had thick cushioned mats to stand on.

The first day on the job my training cashiers talked about how management doesn't really listen to concerns employees might have. Funny, those same cashiers are still working there today.

I really didn't see WalMart as a bad company to work for. We were always told that you DO NOT work for WalMart when you are off the timeclock. They were very prudent in making sure you had a 15 minute break A.M. and P.M. and a 1 hour lunch with your 8 hour shift. I never heard of anyone being made to work overtime with no pay.

They also have an excellent profit sharing program. True, I would not have been eligible for health care until after a year or so....being a part-time employee.

Hey, when you live rural as I do, WalMart is the ONLY big selection store you have. We also still have KROGER and another independent grocer but they have higher prices. And they've been here all through the regular WalMart and the building of the new SUPER CENTER 2-1/2 year ago.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

Swale and Rex,
Why are you both on Mercola.com?? It appears that you've missed the messages completely. Sad, really sad

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

I wonder how many of those here attacking Walmart are actually union operatives.

After seeing the sleazy commercials they run, it certainly fits their M.O.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

The problem with Walmart?
What problem?
People land on it by the thousands......and they all seem to be satisfied.
It must be something good about it.

-----------------------------
The problem with shit?
What problem?
Flies land on it by the thousands.......and they all seem to be satisfied.
It must be something good about it.

re: Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

I think it's time people shop elsewhere.
