The library is very important, many people are unaware of the I-Lite system, where if you know the title and author of a book you can get it through your local library. I have not found a library that is not a member of it. They do have some limitations and depending on the interest and age of the book there might be a slight charge for it. Still it is usually less then purchasing a copy of the book, if one is available.

Books aren't infallible, either.

Besides, aren't there encyclopedias on CD-Rom? Talk about saving trees.

Do kids these days even know how to use encyclopedias? They were brought up finding everything via the web. In schools now, they are requiring kids to write papers and on their bibliographies page, they are only allowed to have 2 sources from the web, just to force them to pick up a *gasp* book and find the information themselves. I was shocked in colleges how many students are turning in papers and the only sources they had were from the net. Do people even realize that the internet is not 100% correct know-it-all about everything? There are a lot of sites out there with inaccurate, invalid, unsubstantiated information...and it's being passed off as truth. Bear in mind that google may be convenient and fast, but it comes at the expense of the uncertainty behind the knowledge you are obtaining.
