It has been reported that an executive from the world's largest cola manufacturer stated; "There are 6.5 billion people in the world and we want every one of them to be dependent on us for their water." This company drained an aquifer in India to the extent that wells that had been providing water for hundreds of years, dried up and the Indian Government had to step in. This same company has taken so much water from an aquifer near to where I live that the levels of some heavy metals in the bottled water are up to 200 times higher than town water from Sydney. It's money that matters.

I am afraid of my water because i have well.
I didn't do research about groundwater pollution until after i moved in to my new home. Some 10-20 miles away (at an army base) there was a radioactive leak around here some 50 years ago, some cases of cancer since. Besides, my neighbors, hate to say are the epitomy of ignorance and go fluttering around using any kind of pesticide or chemical they are sold, and they swear by bleach, we all have some kind of septice, though everyone is no more than an acre away from each other. I have also looked up prices for getting water tested.....i would consider taking a second mortgage to pay for it.... I try not to use plastic water bottles but i don't trust our public officials to test everything and stop the violators......which of course are mostly our public officials and the companies they represent. So what do we do.... I would love that to be a government free service, where once or twice a year i could go and have an extensive water test done on my water....to the lab of my choice... or even provide it as a write off....that's cool. Something.
I wish i could do the right thing but all this pollution is twisting me up.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I didn't get through all of the comments to know if this was already mentioned. If you put water into a wide mouth glass jar and place it on the counter with the lid off, the chlorine will evaporate on its own. You can buy test strips that measure the chlorine content. You can periodically test the water to determine how long it will take for your particular source to rid itself of the chlorine. After you're done, you can use a good home filter to run out the other bad stuff. My mom and I tried this and the chlorine level dropped really quickly. I was surprised. It was at least 24 hours. I don't remember the exact time though.

I live in Scotland, and I drink bottled water (from plastic bottles) because our water supply now has ammonium added to it, as well as chlorine. It makes the water taste sweeter. However, the public is warned not to use it for tropical fish, it will kill them, similarly it is toxic for patients on kidney dialysis. So what about the rest of us? I'm unsure if filtration will remove ammonium, hence the bottles.

I ran into a friend of mine who works for Pepsi. We no longer see him because he is one of 9 people on a shift that loads Aquafina water onto the trucks. First of all, he had worked the last 30 days in a row. He literally is not allowed to take days off, because he will get written up and fired. For some odd reason, Pepsi will not hire more people to work this shift. We begin to talk about the water and he tells me that the water is so pure because they RADIATE it! When it comes out of the thick walled radiation room, as he was told....they cannot drink the water for 24hrs. because it is so HEALTHY that they will get very sick from the water. I was wondering if the public is aware that this procedure has been used!

Tap vs bottled water: The area where we live has terrible water. It comes from deep wells that have very high levels of natural Fluoride. We have been living here for 3 years, and so have been forced to purchase bottled water. Do you have any ideas on how to get rid of the Fluoride? Is reverse osmosis enough or do we need to use distiller as well?

I recommend all clients, as well as my family does, to not use plastic water bottles, store anything in plastic, or eat anything that is sold in plastic. Most plastics cotain what are called xenoestrogens. I am sure if you all put two and two together, you can figure out how this can affect not only women, but men as well.

In my clinical opinion, this is one of the many concrete reasons why I and society has so many women that are estrogen dominant (having low levels of progesterone to oppose estrogen). I see this all the time on lab tests and in my opinion, this is one of the many reasons we see so much cancer in women. Estrogen causes cell proliferation, which overtime causes cancer.

Bottled water has always tasted a little funny (sans "ha-ha") to me. I've traveled the long and winding road when it comes to refreshment -- going from beer (too much alcohol) to juice (too much sugar) to seltzer (to much fizzy-gas).

Now I buy straight-up cranberry juice without the added sugar and pour one or two inches in a glass, topping it off with filtered tap water kept in a glass carafe in the fridge. The cranberry juice has a powerful, liquid cranberry-sauce-like taste on its own and is expensive, but it lasts a long time with this method and flavors the cold water nicely.

When taking water to work, I reuse an old Tazo juice bottle for the "cranberry water" described above. Tastes great, less filling. And my name ain't Miller....

Bottled water cost a great deal more than gasoline on an ounce for ounce basis, and though there is not as much chemical refining, per se, there is clear manipulation in filtration, reverse osmotics, pH, demineralization, polarity, ion charge, added components, sometimes, irradiation, boiling, added salt or other harmful chemical levels, etc.

A related horrid situation, reported on by Dr. Mercola, is how the large Soda companies, in places like India, are destroying ground water wells by over pumping from aquifers, and denying populations safe
drinking water, to force them into tankered water, or bottled water, or sodas at a fee.

The paradigm folks must change; safe clean FREE drinking water is a basic RIGHT of all humans, irrespective of who they are, or where they live.

Bottled water is NOT that solution, but merely a further financial exploitation on the part of a very few large beverage multinationals.

Desalinization from the oceans of the world, not controlled by bottling companies, for all, and run by solar, not metered, is the solution, and the engineering for affordable such plants, exists NOW.

And what about distilled water? I have met a number of teenagers who don't drink any water but the lightly fruit flavored distilled water that is all the rage these days. They don't like the taste of regular water. I know that it is controversial, but I don't believe that distilled water is good for the electrolyte balance or for performing all of the hydrogen-bond structural functions that are critical in the body.

Fortunately, the BodyTalk hydration technique quickly changed the teenager's taste preference back to real water. Anyone have any additional experience with distilled?

The world's largest beverage manufacturer owns about 20 or so bottled water brands worldwide(maybe more by now) and has been responsible for the depletion of aquifers in many countries.

I bought a water filtration system for my home in Sept 2006. It has a de-chlorinator as well as RO for my drinking water. I buy SOBE juice products from Meijers and dump the product out. I then use the wonderful 20 oz glass bottles to fill with my own water. I have several bottles, I prefer my water at room temprature and it tastes great.

I don't care what my city says about the safety of the water, I'm still not touching the stuff. Even if it was exceptable for drinking according to "their numbers" when it left the facility, by the time it runs through the antiquated infrastructure to reach my home, who knows what's in it.
