This episode is hardly a surprise to anyone involved in medicine. I am a Chiropodist in the UK and one thing has always been clear to me -doctors treat all patients as dumb. They, and nursing staff,only listen for what they want to hear. No matter what the patient says, most of the information that is offered goes straight over the heads of staff. They may nod and smile, but never assume that they are actually listening. Double check and then double check again.

My wife, who has edited an international medical publication, had breast cancer and was told to take Tamoxifen, despite it being being listed as a class 1 carcinogen by the WHO. Despite the fact that we are both from medical disciplines we were literally treated like criminals for refusing the drug and not one question was answered, even though we made it clear what our backgrounds are and that all information gained was based on mainstream medical publications.

We are not doctors - just the dumb public - or so they think. Remember that the physicians smile is often the smile of the knowing adult to the poor innocent child. Keep control over what happens to you. If anyone dies - it is you, not them.

My sister has spinabifida, and a severe latex allergy.

Every time she goes in for (one of her many) operations, she always marks that she's got a latex allergy.

My parents have been called to the bedside of their dying daughter three times, once they were told that she was dying on the table with constricted airways and shock.

Invariably, she's been treated with, or lying on latex.

Response is always "nobody responds that way to a latex allergy"

Gangrenous ovarian cyst, and she almost died through doctors not following a scientific method in treatment, just "guess and test", removing and discarding fluids without testing them. False notes on charts, as too many people were dealing with her case, and their memory of what they heard other people say that they'd done.

In my experience the veterinarians that I've dealt with are in a league above the human medical profession (except when it comes to selling their own brand of grains, fats, and offal labelled as pet food)

Have been there, finally took hold of my own health 4 years ago. As time marched on, I began to improve my knowledge and even more wonderful changes took place. Today, I am very healthy and am illness free. I do keep listening to my body and follow what it says. If changes are necessary, I will make them. I keep reading and listening to others and follow my own natural instints. If I have a question, I ask several sources, until I find what is right for me.

I am 64 years old and look to be in my mid-fifties, and work as a very healthy 30 year old. I feel great. Better then when I was 30 years old.

Next year I should look 50 years old. You see, I plan on living till age 120 or more, still working and feeling great. Stay possitive.

Having a severely handicapped child who has had more than his fair share of hospitalizations, though not 1 a month. There are many times I refused to let the staff give him medications that the doctor ordered. The thing I had the most trouble with is his diet. he is highly allergic to cow's milk, all forms, but does well on raw goat's milk. Evertime he is in the hospital we always get something with milk in it and almost every day.

We all need to be advocates for our own health (and those of our loved ones), in part by rejecting the "doctor knows best" mentality pushed on us by the medical industry and the culture at large, and also by continuing to educate ourselves on how best to acheive and maintain good health...thank you, Dr Mercola for helping to this end!

There is no substitute for efficacious consumption of naturally occurring plant, herb, and vegetable sterols with antioxidant benefits in a preventative model.

By definition the western treatment, or reactive model, triggers more harm, prior to alleged assistance, or cure.

A pinch of prevention REMAINS worth (at least) a pound of cure.

As a Clinical / TCM herbalist, about 75% of my work with patients involves trying to “undo” doctor’s mistakes (mostly due to pharmaceuticals they have prescribed) Applying the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine helps, but It is one of the most frustrating problems! However the biggest question I have about common “mistakes” is, “are they always mistakes or sometimes just a grab for money”?

It is a hard thing to even imagine but I believe I have seen many patients that were convinced by there doctors that they had cancer and maybe even had lab work showing a false-positive for cancer (I wonder how that works!) and because they had lots of money they were scared into chemo, and the “whole nine yards”

Although I have seen some (who refuse chemo therapy) truly beat cancer with herbs, some just “heal up” way too fast! In these, I am sure it was not cancer at all! (and I am the first to tell them!)

Is it possible that it is not always mistakes? Are some doctors so evil they just don’t care about anything but that “Ca-ching” sound of cash?

I, for one, have protected doctors from this accusation for a long time and now I am beginning to have my doubts! What can we do if it is true?
