The part that I think really stinks on this is that the company is taking a very good thing (the EGCG) and turning it into a joke!

These companies aren't stupid. They know that there is a benefit to these things and more importantly (to them) their is a rising market. So they tap into it.

I think it goes without saying that the ingredients in this drink are nothing compared to drinking good old fashion Green tea (hopefully the stuff w/o the fluoride).

What we all need to do is pass right on by the product in our local supermarket.

re: Lawmakers Attacking Fraudulent Green Tea Energy Drink Claims

BEVNET.COM lists the ingredients as Carbonated water, calcium lactate, concentrated green tea from tea leaves, citric acid, phosphoric acid, potassium sorbate and potassium benzoate, natural flavors, aspartame, caffeine, ace-k. I have seen studies, as probably most Mercola readers have, showing that green tea accelerates weight loss. My Chinese friend tells me that his Mom tells him to always drink green tea when eating rice, to prevent obesity - this is traditional knowledge in that part of the world. Regarding caffeine, most studies show benefits. It is the most validated weight-loss aid on the market. (My personal opinion is that it's a wonderful stimulant.) The problem with this drink is the aspartame. Outside of that serious negative, I don't understand why their claims are necessarily fraudulent. Just my opinion.
Duane

re: Lawmakers Attacking Fraudulent Green Tea Energy Drink Claims

Let's hope this Attorney General really plans to follow through and is not grand-standing for reelection, or seeking higher office...we already have enough, if not an abundance of "Voodoo" politicans in America.

If you read my comments of a few days ago, when Dr. Mercola first posted some information on Enviga, you will find not only is this product suspect in dosage of any active components, but Enviga has intentionally tried to HIDE the sweetener(s) being used that probably partially, or completely, block, or negate, any metabolic benefit from the green tea.

Also, beware Pepsico's claim on their version of Snapple green tea beverage, claiming the most dosage (presumably of green tea or anti-oxidant effect) of any beverage in the category.

As with Enviga, Pepsico, FAILS to define dosage, over what period of time, in what specific individuals, under what rest or exercise conditions, or medical predispositions, or of what weight, height, sex, etc.

Folks, there are no reputable studies, independently verified, and not financed by the marketers, to back up their OUTRAGEOUS claims.

Should you believe anything two major PUSHERS of water, carbonation and UNHEALTHY High Fructose Corn Syrup daily sell, by the rail tanker loads, when it comes to allegedly new functional brands?
