In Functional Medicine, we are constantly dealing with people who consult us for chronic health problems due to the bad lifestyle choices they made for years. Body composition and metabolic syndrome are often prime concerns. When told that fat consumption doesn't make you fat, they are astounded. In order to burn fat, you must eat fat ( usually in the form of good oils, not trans fat). In many of our patients, we, in fact, have to INCREASE their consumption of fat! You can't light the furnace unless you put wood in it first. My fear with the over the counter availability is an exacerbation of these conditions in younger and younger populations because it will be perceived as a green light to pig out on grains and sugar-the real culprits.

Dr. Marc St-Denis

re: Over-the-Counter Diet Drug, Alli, Approved

Why oh why is it that we as a species always want the easy way out. Have we been pre programed at birth or somthing? What the heck is going on. Due to the altruistic nature of our species to have more convienience in our daily lives, we have become blinded to what is going on. When I read this, I immediately think that the world greed for money or wealth is striking again. Here we go again only to fall further behind. Why do we spend so much money on living our lives. The pharmaceutical companies amaze me over and over again. Is there some evil source out there trying to destroy mankind? Why is it that this world we inhabit demands so much $$. What the heck gives money so much power and control..
