The sooner people realise that we are each resposnsible for our own health, the better off we will be - individually and as a society. There is simply no replacement for optimum nutrition and a sensible exerise regime. I am fifty seven and still surf, ride a mountain bike, rock climb and train; although not as often as I would like. The good news is that I am not alone.

re: Why Exercising as You Age Becomes More Important and Challenging

I will agree that the proper diet and loads of cardio and weight training have made me a younger woman. It just amazes me more and more everyday. I had a bad upset concerning my health and it made me wake up and take control of the situation. Even my eyesight has improved, the doc was puzzled. hehe.

re: Why Exercising as You Age Becomes More Important and Challenging

Aging is a funny phenomenon. It isn't quite clear yet what is an unavoidable part of aging or just a part of living a nutrient-poor, sedendary lifestyle for a long time! The more we discover...it isn't the the number of years that ages us, but the way we live them!

Regular physical activity is essential for optimal health. Having a exercise program is great, but we have become so "efficient" that we just don't need to move much throughout the day. I say, we need to figure out ways to become "inefficient" in our movement...

some not-so novel ideas...but it is a start:
park at the far end of the parking lot- don't look for the closest spot!
take the stairs instead of the elevator
hang your wash outside to dry, rather than use the dryer
walk or bike to the corner store, leave the car at home.
take the bus and get of two stops before your destination and walk the rest of the way.
being active needs to be part of our lifestyle not just a 30 minute or so break in an otherwise sedendary day...move those bones!

Seek health-

Jess

re: Why Exercising as You Age Becomes More Important and Challenging

Think of exercise of a fountain of youth that does not have to cost very much except a good pair of shoes. Along with eating the correct foods for your body type.

mmc88121

re: Why Exercising as You Age Becomes More Important and Challenging

I can't over emphasize the importance of the foundation principles that I have put out here before. It does not matter what age you are at. I have helped some complicated cases just with these simple principles below.
