I've stopped using commercial lotions, creams, shampoos, conditioners and antiperspirants since my bout with breast and thyroid cancer almost 6 years ago.
I make up a mixture of pure vitamin E oil, Glycerin, the contents of a couple of CoQ10 capsules and Aloe Vera Juice as a skin lotion. For antiperspirant/deodorant, I dab on some essential oil and some organic corn starch. Borax mixed with some warm water makes a great body wash and shampoo. Borax has anti-bacterial properties that kill the bacteria that causes body odor.
Also, a healthy diet will make your skin glow. I've become a vegan and have adopted the raw foods diet. I feel better now than I've felt in years. I have more energy and stamina than I did when I was 20. My skin looks great and I find now that I don't need makeup to hide anything, because there's nothing to hide anymore.

If you research into this subject of cancer causing ingredients in consumer products you will be very alarmed. I'm just happy to see the word getting out.

I stopped using all store bought personal care products about 10 years ago when I was introduced to the science behind the fraud by a great company called Neways. The first ingredient that I was just embroiled about was Fluoride. The truth behind the fraud is that it's just unbelievable that this ingredient be touted as good and is being used by millions of people.

My question to this cosmetic impurity problem is this. If a boy does show he was effected by the phthalates, is there anything that can be done to help a boy mature more "naturally", as in reverse the effects? Is there anything that can be done if these boys have already reached maturity? Are there any treatment options available or are these children and men unsuspecting victims of a lack of public regard for safety?

Thank God I found out about pthalates in nail polish, early in my daughter's pregnancy. She knows that I'm a healthnut and never questions my warnings about things of this nature. She immediately stopped using it. For a special occasion, she bought some natural nail polish from a health food store. Because of this site, and others like it, she has proceeded through a healthy pregnancy: no msg, no aspartame, no processed foods, no cold cuts, almost no fish She is taking essential fatty acids, folic acids and healthy pregnancy vitamins. She stopped taking OTC migrain meds and surprisingly, the migrains tapered off. Most importantly, she is not vaccinating this child and has found a wonderful Pedeatrician who is backing her up. I think by using these so-called beauty products, we are spending an excessive amount of our hard earned dollars on continuing to supply the force that is trying to wipe us out. There are organic products that I buy and I find they last longer and feel cleaner than regular products you would buy at the local drug strore. I don't wear make up of perfumes, if I feel that if I must wear some sort of scent on my body, I use essential oils. Excellent hygiene is the best beauty treatment one could ever do.

I had to change all of my personal care products as well as my cleaning supplies due to my severe allergies. Under doctor’s order I had to switch to non-toxic and non-allergenic products. To stay away from toxic chemicals I looked to the health food store for all natural unscented products. I tried a popular brand of hand lotion and was very allergic to it. I now have two catalogs that I order most of my supplies from, which are:

If a product is in either one of these two catalogs I know that it was well screened for its safety. They carry both naturally scented and unscented non-toxic products.

I also trust the Green Guide for recommendations for non-toxic products. They did an excellent article on personal care products in their January/February 2003 issue.

The most excellent facial I ever had just yesterday was with extra virgin olive oil and raw honey. It's amazing that we've been conditioned to buy expensive products that are no good for us when there are such simple, healthy, inexpensive alternatives that work better.

I want to recommend organic extra-virgin coconut oil as the ultimate moisturizer for your skin. I also use it as a make-up remover. I have given up perfumes, hair-spray, nail-polish, etc., but i still wear make-up for special occaisions. I find the brands that have very few ingredients work best.

I've stopped using commercial cosmetic products just for these reasons. You have to be very careful with organics also. Not all of them contain totally benign ingredients and sometimes it's hard to determine what is actually in them. Since I've started using truly benign shampoo and skin lotion my eczema has healed and my red skin is gone and my thinning hair is regrowing.
