Diamonds - pfff! I would rather have a perfectly nice cheap silver ring and spend the money on books or travel. Bling is so unoriginal!

There is another point of view to all of this. It is true that the vast majority of gemstones are used for jewelry or adornment, and come with a high price both human and financial. But the other side of the story is that real, true gemstones, properly cut and treated , may offer therapeutic benefits to the wearer when done under the direction of a skilled diamond/gemstone therapist or astrologer. This has been practiced for centuries, in many cultures, and probably is the real reason why there is the attraction to diamonds and gemstones. However, the vast majority of jewelry simply is "bling" and is sold for a profit, and all of the original purpose of gemstones has been lost. I am sorry, synthetics are simply that - adornment at a cheaper price, but they are missing nature's vitality, and would never fall into the category of therapeutic.

The jeweler who sold me my wife's engagement ring told me he'd gladly buy it back from me at the price I originally paid for it at any point in the future. He was that certain the the diamond would do nothing but appreciate in value.

What a scam natural diamonds are. I've had my $100 lab created 1 carat solitaire for 20 years and it's still gorgeous. Way better than a CZ. Jewelers can tell right away, though, cause it's flawless.

In Victoria Finlay's second excellent treatise on JEWELS (her first was entitled: Colour - Travels Through The Paint Box, which I also highly recommend) she also exposes the URBAND LEGEND and MYTH perpetrated by the DeBeer's Diamond Cartel of diamonds value, or net worth...

In point of fact, if all the available inventories of cut, or rough, diamonds mined (or the abundance still geologically available globally to mine) where allowed on to this highly artificial and created market, the prices would plummet to next to nothing, per caret, irrespective of color, clarity, or cut. After all, there is a massive supply available for industrial uses at very low pricing AS WELL AS ALL THOSE DIAMONDS NOW ON WEDDING FINGERS OR ARE IN JEWELRY AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE FOR SALE.

The MYTH of rarety is exactly that.

The same can be said for petroleum/oil also because it is artificially controlled by refining capacity, not the MYTH of available sources.

Synthetical jewels are indeed equal to, or superior in, quality (no flaws), at much lower pricing, and Finlay argues that this is indeed the 'tipping' point in the very murky world of HYPE & DECEPTION that has driven outrageously high pricing for these common stones in pricing, for over a century in the western markets.

The only BLING in diamonds is the ongoing CON on your wallet, from the cash registers ringing, from those collecting WAY TOO MUCH for polished rocks.

Here's another reason why diamonds should not be your best friend! Is anyone familiar with the crimes against humanity and exploitation that goes on in South Africa? I highly recommend the book Glitter and Greed by Janine Roberts if you are looking to get the bi picture. If you want to talk about one of the largest corporate greed scandals ever perpetrated on the Global public then DeBeers and the birth of the Oppenheimer diamond cartel should be atop the list!

Very good article, just because somebody says something does not mean it is true. As my mother always said don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. Good advice when it comes to advertising. Also, there is an area in Arkansas where you can did for diamonds and if you find on you can keep it.
