It is true that the vast majority of gemstones are used for jewelry or adornment, and come with a high price both human and financial. But the other side of the story is that real, true gemstones, properly cut and treated , may offer therapeutic benefits to the wearer when done under the direction of a skilled diamond/gemstone therapist or astrologer. This has been practiced for centuries, in many cultures, and probably is the real reason why there is the attraction to diamonds and gemstones. However, the vast majority of jewelry simply is "bling" and is sold for a profit, and all of the original purpose of gemstones has been lost. I am sorry, synthetics are simply that - adornment at a cheaper price, but they are missing nature's vitality, and would never fall into the category of therapeutic.

re: Why Diamonds Really Aren't Your Best Friend

"Besides, if diamonds were really valuable, wouldn't jewelers buy them
from consumers at a premium, instead of a fraction of what you may have

I've had my $100 lab created 1 carat solitaire for 20 years and it's still gorgeous. Way better than a CZ. I highly recommend the book Glitter and Greed by Janine Roberts if you are looking to get the bi picture. If you want to talk about one of the largest corporate greed scandals ever perpetrated on the Global public then DeBeers and the birth of the Oppenheimer diamond cartel should be atop the list!

Click Here to Read the Short Story, "Dangerous Diamonds."

re: Why Diamonds Really Aren't Your Best Friend

Very good article, just because somebody says something does not mean it is true. As my mother always said don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. Good advice when it comes to advertising. Also, there is an area in Arkansas where you can did for diamonds and if you find on you can keep it.

mmc88121
