The difference is a broken bone eventually heals itself.

I think everybody is over thinking this whole ED "problem". Aging males have always faced this eventuality of nature. We have a nervous system called the Autonomic Nervous System that regulates involuntary rhythms in the body. Two subsystems of the ANS is the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS), which is are "flight or fight" NS and the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PSNS), which is our "rest and digest" NS.

When we are stressed (chemical, physical, mental, emotional, etc, the body perceives it as all the same), our SNS is stimulated and our body release physiological hormones and neurotransmitters in order to handle the stressors. As well, most of the blood in the body is diverted away from our digestive and reproductive systems and towards the peripery (muscles, etc). When we eat, rest, have sex, etc, our PSNS is stimulated, which releases more of our repair and regneration hormones.

When people are constantly stressed and in a sympathetic state (which most americans are), you will see symptoms such as tissue breakdown, blood sugar handlinig issues, fatigue, problems with sleep, handling stress, depression and etc, etc, etc. Most people are bombarded by stressors each day, but cannot handle and adapt to these. This is secondary to poor nutrition and lifestyle habits.

If you are constantly in a sympathetic state, your body diverts the production of pregnenonone (precursor to DHEA and testosterone) to make cortisol (stress hormone). As well, most of the blood is diverted from the reproductive systme in order for the body to handle the constant stressors. So, if you are stressed in the many ways one can be, this in my opinion is why most people are constipated and can't get "excited." There SNS is always stimulated, their testosterone production is inhibited and their reproductive system is slowed down secondary to "pregnenolone steal."
