This will be very unpopular around here, but count me as one firm voice against these bans. The way to get these companies to change is by informing the public of the truth and hoping they vote with their money, either by visiting or boycotting the restaurants in question. Mercola readers especially should be wary of this type of health nazism because this same jackboot mentality would have been used by these people years ago to ban eggs, saturated fat, and red meat. In fact, faulty studies continue to implicate these good foods with disease so they could just as easily fall under the same types of bans right now. It's the same exact kind of government intrusion that keeps raw milk banned in so many areas. Support of over-the-top reactions such as this can only empower authorities to enact bans elsewhere or mandate participation in health schemes against the free will of informed people. Next thing you know we'll have authorities telling us we MUST vaccinate our children.

An equally disturbing AMERICAN & EUROPEAN food chain trend, that has really not been addressed, for several years since it discovery in a wide scope of brands, in the whole trans fat banning debate, is the formation of CANCER CAUSING AT, LOW INGESTION LEVELS, ACRYLAMIDE, in even nons trans fat oil, or hard fat, systems!!!

However, I tend to agree with my fellow contributors, one step at a time, and at least, city by city, we are seeing some responsible action, IF it is indeed enforced, and adhered to, in a timely fashion (of months and not years).

Many food chain companies out there are spinning all kinds of pious Press Releases that they too will phase out trans fats.

The problem with these self declared absolution and redemption Press Releases is many of these same companies have given themselves YEARS to do it, or only partially do it in a limited number of units, or cities.

There are even some major junk and fast food chains, that just never seem to get around to implementing the pronouncements, as self appointed good citizens, having known about the health harm for a very long time, once the spot light is off them.

Remember folks the majority of meals in the USA are daily consumed outside the home, so there are no labels for consumers to know whether or not these compliances are really happening where they eat.
