Wth the massive increases in the price of petroleum, plastics, most of which are entirely or mostly made from petroleum, may become less and less economical. Many "plastic-like" containers are now made from corn. Corn is presently produced mostly by fuel oil, but that can be changed. Farming equipment can be powered by renewable energy sources such as hydrogen produced by solar and wind power, or electricity produced with the same.
The sun's energy that strikes the earth is approximately 1 kW/sq metre, which comes to about 40 trillion kW on the earth's disc of close to 13,000 km. diameter. Most of this is unavailable for man's use, being either reflected into space or used to power the earth's cycles, but even if only a thousandth of a percent can be used, this amounts to 400 thousand MW.
Petroleum, being a nonrenewable resource (the earth does not seem to be producing a significant quantity of fresh petroleum today), must inevitably become more and more expensive. New petroleum discoveries are not gushers of sweet crude but are in more and more difficult to extract sources. Petroleum is easily manmade but this requires energy from somewhere to power its production. Petroleum is essentially stored solar energy from antiquity. Solar energy that struck the earth long ago is stored in the form of petroleum, coal, lignite and a few other minerals. Solar energy that struck the earth within the last few decades is stored as timber (suitable for burning). Solar energy that struck the earth within the last few months is stored as corn and other fuel crops. Solar energy that struck the earth within the last few weeks is stored as water in rivers, lakes and reservoirs and is converted in hydroelectric power plants. Solar energy that struck the earth within the last few days and hours is stored as wind and is converted by wind power mills. Solar energy that is striking the earth now is converted by solar cells and heat collectors.

I think we have just started to know all of the issues with the toxins in plastic containers. I find it interesting that more and more physicians and senior nursing staff are drinking all water out of glass containers and never "microwaving" with plastics! I wonder if some of these states that are banning the trans fat would agree to ban plastic water bottles...or baby bottles as the case may be.

Very interesting article, not only could you affect your child's health. This can also affect your mental capabilities as you age. Very possibly it could affect your grandchildren's health also.

As I have stated in many of my posts, xenoestrogens such as BPA, are one of the major causes of certain cancers in females, PMS and difficulties with conceiving (my opinion). An interesting thing that a female can do to test this:

1. Eliminate all plastics (containers-use glass, water bottles, or any food that is stored in plastic)

After 3-6 months, go back to drinking out of plastic, eating out of plastic, etc and what you will notice is that all you taste is plastic. At the same time, you will notice how well you felt off them, that you will not want to go back.
