I agree that most prostate cancers are slow growing cancers and in these cases there is no need for aggressive treatment; however, sometimes there is frequent disagreement amongst pathologists in terms of what is "aggressive cancer" and one is faced with a dilemma in terms of the appropriate treament. Also, most traditional urologists do not buy alternative medicine including the new color doppler sonogram which alternative practioners say can detect the aggressive cancers. Thus, it is the individual who must make the choice into the best treatment for himself

In my case I decided to by-pass the so called "Gold Standard" diagnostic tool (needle biopsy) for a Color Dopler Sonar. This tool and a new tool ,MRI-S, will alow men to opt for less invasive treatments or even non-treatment for Prostate Cancer. There are a few Urologists who are spearheading what will become a new Gold Standard for diagnosis and treatment as new imaging technology becomes more availible.

One such Urologist is Dr. Ronald Wheeler MD of Sarasota Florida. He will be releasing a book soon called "Men at risk, a Rush to Judgment" The first chapter "Too many Radicals...too many Failures" is posted on his website. Dr. Larry Clapp (not an MD) mentioned by Dr. Mercola is a great place to start for the latest in Alternative Prostate Cancer information.

Thank God for men and women like Dr. Mercola, Dr. Wheeler and Dr. Clapp who give us new options in treatment.

Regarding Prostate Cancer, I have not seen anything written about the treatment I received in 2004 at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California (PROTON BEAM THERAPY) There were very few if any side effects and so far not after effects..

Hi,
Prostate cancer is a very complicated and emotive subject. I am not surprised to read that most men diagnosed do not want to opt for the watch and wait programme. Men being what they are and I am one too, when diagnosed just want to tear the cancer out of their body and so did I.
My Gleason score was read as 6 from my biopsy. I opted for a radical prostectomy after which, the pathology report showed that the true Gleason reading was 7. Leaving a cancer in place and risking it having been under-diagnosed or spreading is not conducive with a peaceful mind, especially with the way the average man thinks.
Knowing what I know now, were I to have the same choice again, I would decide exactly the same because once the cancer has spread from the prostate, who can know where it will grow next.

I think people need to read the work of Brian Peskin (The hidden story of cancer) when wishing to have CORRECT advice on the dietry factors concerning cancer. His web site is www.BrianPeskin.com. We should NOT be consuming fish oil supplements and his analysis of the research blows apart commonly held myths about the causes of cancer. I have immediately implemented his diet, as it makes sense and is based on PROVEN research. This diet will prevent other degenerative disease and increase immunity. Time will tell, but I expect the results to be pretty swift. This diet is not unlike that suggested by Dr. Mercola, but Brian advises us (through proven research) that fish oil supplements are highly toxic and can cause cancer. Years ago I was listening to a heath activist on the radio talking about this subject. It sticks with me because my father had prostate cancer. He quoted a study showing life expectancy after diagnosis .It was something like. Do nothing 17 years aggressive treatment 15 years. The more things change the more they stay the same
