It's a completely professional, not-erotic thing. They massage women's breast tissue (maybe men, I don't know, but I've never felt the need to inquire). They don't (or shouldn't) touch the nipple so you won't have any arousal. It's supposed to help your breast tissues freely remove toxins. Breasts are mostly fat, and where are toxins stored? In fat. When we are able to eliminate these toxins, through massage, we can clear up the flow so that everything can just flow out better. Hard, tough, stiff breasts become more supple and "free flowing", I guess. I don't know how to explain it. All I know is I got one done and my breasts were instantly more moveable, less stiff/hard/etc. and I could definitely feel it in the weight too. Not sure why, but like with a massage on your body, it just felt better and more relaxed. We massage our bodies, why not get a breast massage done too? I'm definitely getting it done again routinely with my massage. I highly recommend it for women as a way to help promote breast health and prevent cancer.

re: Five Reasons to Get a Massage Today

I have been getting a massage every week for a while now. I am not in any way promoting this with an ulterior motive as I am not in this profession. I was in so much pain I was not able to sleep a few months ago and though I would have to make a trip to the doctor, but instead, partly due to the fact I do not have insurance, I went and got an hour massage and felt better right away. I had my 5th one yesterday and with every massage I feel better and better. I would like to go 2x’s a week but my budget prevents this. I don’t how it works but it is worth every penny. I have to say drinking water after the massage makes you feel even better.

(BTW I do not have Insurance because my job does not offer it and due to the fact that I have 2 valves in my heart that are not perfect, a “normal variant” as my cardiologist describes it, no insurance company will cover me. Of course if I could get a job that insures its employees I would be covered. I am just adding this note because sometimes people wonder why so many people do not have Insurance.)

re: Five Reasons to Get a Massage Today

I too had massage for a jaw problem; I dislocated my jaw during a nap. The massage was intense and uncomfortable but afterward I was able to line my lower and upper jaw up evenly.

I have an hour and a half massage once a month just to keep me in shape for the work I do, which is cleaning homes and offices. Sometimes muscles get overworked and are in spasm and massage is an invaluable tool for keeping them strong and healthy. I wouldn't do without it.

re: Five Reasons to Get a Massage Today

After reading this article, I was encouraged by the wide scale acceptance that Massage Therapy has gained in both the alternative medical field and the traditional medical fields as well. As a massage therapist myself, I have been providing these wonderful adjunct therapeutic improvements for my clients for over 7 years. It truly is a feel good experience that is truly good for you! How rare is that!

More recently, I have discovered another bodywork modality like no other: BowenWork, or Bowtech, the original Bowen Technique. This is a form of neuromuscular re-patterning that works through the autonomic nervous system to stimulate an internal innate healing response so that the body is actually encouraged to heal itself. It has been referred to as the homeopathy of bodywork.

Like other practitioners, we begin with massage therapy to introduce us to the wonders of bodywork and learn and grow form there. I am always encouraged to hear and to see what other forms of treatments are out there that can improve the quality of our lives in such a natural, holistic and loving way. My years of experience doing massage and now Bowen, have opened a new chapter of loving, healing service I can contribute to make the world a better place.

blessings and health to you all!
And thank you Dr. Mercola for all you do to help us! As a matter of fact, I found out about Bowen by doing a search on your website a couple of years ago! Thank you!

Pam from Oro Valley, AZ

re: Five Reasons to Get a Massage Today

As an Holistic Therapist, I think massage should be compulsory!!
I have an Aromatherapy massage myself....every week usually, and having been away in New Zealand and Fiji for three and a half months, can testify to the detereoration in my well-being, in this short time, due to a lack of massage.
Massage for all I say!
David.http://www.holisticplace.co.uk

re: Five Reasons to Get a Massage Today

While I have no idea why, I do know that even very small amounts of xylitol make both my husband and I horribly dizzy... I would like to add that though I love massage, acupressure is especially effective for many health issues because one gets the benefits of both massage and acupuncture at the same time(I noticed one of the studies compared massage to acupunture). I teach classes for CEU's for massage and bodywork professionals and I teach for lay people who would like to learn simple techniques to use for self and family/friends. Other JSD teachers around the country do the same--check the web site: www.jinshindo.org for a list of practitioners and teachers. Nothing beats a professional treatment but I also feel it is important to empower my clients--it is so reassuring to know that a simple acupressure treatment could help headaches, all types of pain and digestive problems--no need to go for drugs! Bodywork(massage, acupressure, chiropractic adjustments, cranial work) of all kinds can be just the thing to get people out of the downward health spiral in to an upward spiral--if you feel good it is easier to be motivated to excercise and prepare healthy food!
