"Pap smears" do not prevent a person from getting HPV, they only screen for abnormal cells resulting from HPV. About 10% of HPV infections don't clear due to many factors, including genetics, viral load of the virus & how aggressive is the virus type. Sometimes the body doesn't "see" the virus and doesn't know to mount an immune response, so even people with excellent immune systems can be harmed by HPV. Each year there are 1.2 million low grade infections and 300,000 high grade infections. About 1/2 of low grade infections are treated and all of high grade. Treatment, usually surgical excision, can cause significant emotional, psychological, sexual, reproductive and financial harm. The worst is treatment of recurrent dysplasia, which requires multiple procedures, sometimes leading to hysterectomy for women of child bearing years. There are currently no good infection control strategies, other than the vaccine. Even though this virus is widespread, women continue to bear the burden. Until advertisement for the vaccine, the majority of women never heard of HPV until they had their first abnormal pap smear. And because there's no test for men, and women have no way to know whether their partner is infected, there's no real protection for women apart from the vaccine.

I was looking for a way to help myself get rid of HPV. I only see prevention stuff on here. I couldn't prevent how I got it so now what?

I have two daughters: 19 and 21, raised in an alternative-medicine household even though they were vaccinated as babies/toddlers (I didn't finish the vaccine series that are recommended up until age 14 thank God). I had done so much research and still felt so torn about the feelings I'd have if they had caught polio or diptheria, etc. However with Guardisil, I have no problem with guilt. I think the vaccine is horrible and not designed to target a specific problematic disease. Bad pap smears can happen from any number of things not related to the HPV virus. It's bad science, and I am having a HARD time convincing my daughers of this. They will probably sneek and get it at the college campus or Planned Parenthood. They fell victim to the media surrounding this vaccine. Pray I can get them not to take it!

You do not have to be a professional teacher to teach others the truth. Everyone with honest knowledge can teach those that do not know. I speak with as many people on a per-day basis as possible. Believe it or not, most listen. When the truth and reality is spoken with compassion, honesty and great belief, people listen.

When the opportunity arises, I try to help out as many people as possible and direct them towards a better direction. Most responses are great and they want to learn more. Show great concern and love for humanity and animals, and enjoy the great satisfaction of giving.

I was a bit alarmed when states wanted to mandate that teenage girls recieve the HPV vaccine.
Fortunately, by the time my children would have required the chicken pox vaccine, they all had chicken pox. Of course, I had to provide proof they had already gotten it. Which was no small feat between the school nurse and our family physician! Approximately a year later, my youngest child had the shingles. I asked her physician if she had taken the vaccine, would she still have gotten the shingles. He said that not enough information about the vaccine is yet known. HMMMM! This past December my niece in Georgia who had the vaccine, got a newer strain of the chicken pox. (Quelle surprise!) How long do you think it will take before we are learn to leave well enough alone? Prevention should include proper nutrition, adequate rest, and regular exercise. Wishing you all well!

What strikes me as odd is that if boys are infecting girls, why aren't boys being required to get the vaccine? I wrote to the CDC who state that they are still testing a version for boys. But if the vaccine is intended to prevent a viral infection, why should it be different for girls and boys. I don't know of any other vaccine that is different for the sexes. Of course I don't believe a word of it - the vaccine is ridiculous. But I think the surest way to keep it from becoming mandatory for girls is to insist that it also then become mandatory for boys.

Another astonishing example of downstream thinking. The Canadian government just tabled their budget for 2007-2008 and $300 million dollars has been earmarked for a vaccination campaign for HPV. Our healthcare system could surely better use that $300 million dollars in other areas!

The folks at Mostly Evil Researchers, Crooks & Kafkaesquers (MERCK), are running a rolling bait and switch operation in the billions of dollars.

If they get caught on LYING about one drug that causes heart attacks and has killed tens of thousands of people, from undeclared side effects they KNEW about prior to FDA approval with Vioxx, they merely switch resources (bribery and lobbying of state governments to make the drug mandatory or national government overseas) over to the next harmful mothballed thing off some storage shelf to generate profits.

Merck's corporate M-O is very similar to that of Big Tobacco...'how do we continue to lie, cheat, harm and steal, without getting caught?'

It still fascinates me how "they" always focus on the symptom of a bigger problem. So "they" see HPV as a problem, so "they" develop something in order to wipe it out? Why not work backwards and try to figure out where it is coming from?

From all my reading and research, I have to somewhat disagree with the findings in this article. Not Dr. Mercola, but how they correlate HPV to cervical cancer. "Women are much more likely to get cervical cancer if they have been on the pill." Dr. Lee

A pap smear tests form cancerous or precancerous cells on the cervix. Therer are 5 classes: 1) normal 2) inflammation or irritation 3) cervical dysplasia 4)some pre or cancerous cells 5) invasive cancer. The problem with this test according to Dr. Lee is that there are a lot of false-positive's, giving a more serious rating than there already is.

According to Dr. Lee, positive findings in a pap smear happen from: traumatic sex, tampons, condoms, smoking, douches and spermicides on condoms. As well, progesterone deficiency can also contribute to cervical dysplasia secondary to making the cervix more susceptible to inflammation and irritation (secondary to the women being estrogen dominant).

So most MD's look at cervical dysplasia as the byproduct from HPV. In my opinion from treating so many women that are estrogen dominant, have low progesterone levels, smoke, have sex, use condoms, etc, what do you think the cause might be? I am not saying these are the only reasons, but why not consider them before taking a vaccine?
