I must attest to the fact that Vick's Vapor rub DOES indeed work. I have had very stubborn toenail fungus and on the skin area surrounding the nail for at least 10 years, during that time I used expensive prescription Penlac laquer. It worked OK, but did not improve the condition, but did prevent it from getting worse. However, when the nail grew out, the fungus was still there at the same intensity. I finally gave up spending over $50 for tiny bottle and tried the Vick's rub about 1 month ago. I saw improvement in less than 24 hours. It has totally healed the skin area, and is progressively healing the nail bed. I am confident that with the growth of the nail, the new growth will be much better if not totally healed.

I tried for years to get rid of my toenail fungus. My doctor told me about a pill but said that it was really hard on your liver. I tried evey concoction out there and nothing worked. I even pulled my big toenail off(ouch) hoping it would grow back clean. Nothing worked. I gave up on it and kept my toenails painted so no one would see how ugly my big toenails were. More recently I was having some stomach irritation. I believe I may have had gallstones. I used a recipe that a nutritionist had given to my son years ago to relieve gallstones. You shred fresh beets up, (about 3 medium to large ones) coat them in extra virgin olive oil and squeeze 1/2 lemon juice over it. At first the taste was strong for me but I kept eating it daily(about a golf ball size portion) with each meal. I got used to the taste and actually started using it as dressing on my salad. Now, I even eat a portion as a side dish and enjoy it. It is surprising how one can get used to the taste of something and actually start enjoying it. The pain in my gut moved southward progressively for several weeks then disappeared. My assumption is that the gallstones moved along until they were eliminated from my body. Much less traumatic and cheaper than surgery--right. To my surprise, I recently discovered that both my big toenails are growing out clear. I thought I would be faced with that problem for the rest of my life. They have grown out clear about 1/2 way now and I expect this will continue. If you have been suffering from toenail fungus, it is definitely worth a try.

Apple Cider Vinegar seems to be working for me. I just started soaking my foot in half water/half cider vinegar for 20-30 minutes a night before I go to sleep. After the soak, I wash and dry my feet especially around my nails which have had some kind of fungus for years. I trim my nail down as well as I can and scrape off any stuff in the crevices, when wet it is like a goop that I pull out with the tip of the nail clipper. I am on my 5th day. The 2nd and 3rd day, a layer of nail peeled off my toe as if it was killing the fungus. It is really gross! But I feel good about it, in a way that I think it's working. I have been taking pictures every day to show progress that I would like to share if anybody is interested - just contact me.

Vicks Vaporub plus Glutamine

I've had a long standing severe toenail, and now fingernail, fungus problem. Many things work. The hardest part is the consistency.

If you're like me and find it a major challenge to continue something that doesn't look like it's working fast enough, then you've probably been through many of the proposed cures.

I'm finally seeing a pretty fast result using two things together: Vicks Vaporub and glutamine powder twice a day.

In fact I saw results in the condition of the whole nail and not just where the new growth was coming in. A short while after starting the glutamine the nails, for the first time, all seemed to be less pushed away from the nailbed.

I was then inspired to help it along with the Vicks, which was actually recommended to me by a podiatrist friend.

I will post again after I've given it some time.

I had heard of this cure and was faithful to put the vaporub on my toenails for months and months and had no results. You need to know what you have on or under your toes. Dermatophytes can be in subcutaneous tissue and even the externally applied Lamisil will not kill them. Like as was noted a systemic infection that would hinder the immune system needs to be addressed but by and large the worst toenails are under serious attack and possibly can only be treated with Terbinafine Hydrochloride, Lamasil.

About 20 grains of potassium permanganate in a foot bath of water daily will clear foot fungus in a few days. Stains the nails though.

In the summer of 2007 I started using Vick's vaporub regime on a terrible nail fungus. It has resulted in eradication of the fungus I have had for 30 years. From time to time I have undergone drug treatments for it previously and nothing worked well but the cost of these drugs was high.

Thank goodness a nurse recommended Vick's to me. I did in fact use the pharmacy equivalent of the Vick's vaporub. I still have most of the bottle left. Very inexpensive.

Bag Balm. Yes the green metal can with a cows udder on it. It cures warts, fungus, cracked fingers, Round winter dry spots. and keeps infection out of wounds. I do not like some of the filler ingredients like petroleum, but then Vicks has that also. It is amazing. I had such bad finger fungus on the skin, cracks that bled they got so bad. Now I have nice hands, and so do a lot of people I have told about this. One of my husbands Cousins was in bad shape. He had been to Doctors etc.. He was in misery.. It fixed him up fast..

I am new to this post, but I have read most of the posts on this topic and want to add that I have been studying and living healthy for awhile. I myself don't have nail fungus, but a lady I met had nail fungus for 30 years and had spent thousands of dollars and different products trying to get rid of it, but nothing seemed to work for her. Changing diets is always a good one, also, Manuka Oil which is produced in NZ is an exceptional product useful for fungal infections, cold sores, cuts and stings. As an alternative to Vicks vapour rub, a superior product is Olbas Oil which has Eucalyptus among others in it, is 100% natural and is very effective. Rub some coconut oil on your chest then rub Olbas Oil onto it and you'll have a fantastic night sleep. Olbas Oil is also fantastic for relieving blocked sinuses, few drops on a hanky or inside your pillow.

As far as ingesting this product : My mother had me swallow a spoonful when I had a cold. From at least age 18, I have had severe gastro-intestinal problems including pain. Maybe there is no connection. I wonder.

These comments seam to be good, however nobody has mentioned my favorite which is Iodine. Iodine works great on toe nail fungus. Looks weird but works great. You may have to make a hole in the nail with a fingernail file to help the Iodine get in, but it works quick on nail fungus and athletes foot, jock itch, lip sores and other fungal infections.

creI I want to thank everyone for their kind words and replies. I have become a huge fan of this site.

Both of my parents are vegan. They weren't always vegan though it was a gradual change. I tried to do it for a while but at the age of 17 I was out more than I was at home so I found it hard to maintain the diet. I'm currently a vegetarian but I sometimes eat raw fish in sushi. I loooooove sushi and I know the seaweed wrap is good for me!

I recently moved out to a smaller city that doesn't have any organic grocers around. Thankfully I am moving back to downtown Toronto where I can get many different kinds of organic foods so I am happy. NOT happy about all the air pollution but what can you do? I have my vegan girlfriend bring me organic fruits and vegetables from the big city whenever possible.

I had a few years where I was going to college and I didn't exercise or eat properly at ALL. For anyone that lives in Canada, I was working almost full-time at a tim hortons and this contributed to most of my dietary selections because it was free. Horrible, I know but I was poor. Unhealthy eating continued, diet pop with aspartame, caffeine and I have gone through bouts of heavy marijuana use as well. I always stop smoking when I have done the detoxes. I started smoking weed when I was 14.. I probably should have mentioned that in my earlier posts. I've recently broken the habit though and my sex life and health have felt much better.

I ate very healthy when I was doing my last detox and focused on exercise and my health. I was going to brazilian jiu jitsu DURING the detox. After a while of this is when my face exploded. I stopped going to jiu jitsu and just sank into a depression where I ate crap all the time. I recently rebounded and couldn't take feeling like crap all the time anymore !
