Get these kids off this medication and begin a total lifestyle change. Yes, there is a genetic component (genotype) , but what people don't realize is that these genes are only expressed (phenotype) when they are in a toxic or deficient environment.

The child's diet is a major component of environment and most American's diet is toxic and deficient. As a parent, you must eat well before you even have your baby, as your diet can influence the health of your child.

I have posted numerous times about the basics of good eating and what to avoid, but basically, avoid all the whites (sugar, flour,salt), HFCS, all artificial sweeteners and artificial ingredients. In addition, eat a diet 65% plant based and 35% meat ( GRASS FED MEAT ONLY).

Okay, please allow me to clear some air.
I am 18 and only four days ago I found out that I have ADD, my mom has it, my aunt, and my cousin (probably more relatives too). WHOA! New flash! Needless to say, ADD is not caused by television, high fructose corn syrup, or splenda. It is genetic. But I'm sure those things don't help it in anyway either.
Ritalin and Aderol are SUPPOSE to block dopamine in the brain of ADD patents. Dopamine's job is to carry information around the brain, and once the information is used, dopamine cleans it up and puts it away for later use. ADD people have twice the amount of dopamine. The extra dopamine cleans up the information before it is used. Kind of like if you take out a toy out of the toy chest and put it down on the floor while you're closing the chest, your little sister grabs your toy and puts it away before you get a chance to play.

My doctor put me on the smallest dose available (18mg) and if that doesn't work, I go up the next dose until it works for me. I am not building a tolerance. For some, 18mg works, for others more. And if Ritalin doesn't work for me after 54mg, I am instructed to do the same for Aderol. Why the smallest dose? To ensure I am only using the dose that's needed, and that I don't get scary side-affects. People who OD on this stuff are the ones who suffer from side-effects.
This route may not be for some one else. Totally understandable.
Bare in mind that I HATE taking a daily drug. I hate it with a passion. So, why am I doing it? Because my parent's are tired of my lack of focus, and they contacted the doctor and they are paying for this, and I kind of have no choice. At least until l'm off their health plan and then hello EFT!

I have always loved math and wondered why I was so bad at it. Now, I know. Here I am, Freshmen in college and I assessed into Elementary Algebra! Gracious! That's insane! I can do better!

I truly believe that the intent of the parents wasn't to kill this child, but more or less out of ignorance. We have all been ignorant at one time or another when it came down to something that really mattered. Before we became a lot smarter as to the big true picture behind these unnecesary drugs, or vaccines that have killed people in the past, we believed what the doc told us as well, didn't we?? At least now the girl is in a better place. I just wish that more parents would start making informed decisions for thier families sake, and look into the facts themselves, these doctors are getting paid to tell you what is best for you. These knowledgable web-sites on alternative and natural medicine are not!!! I wish more people would understand that what doctors tell you is not always in your best interest or the truth for that matter- they should just be honest and tell you, 'I don't know what is wrong with you, but here are some drugs to try, and here are some of the horrible side effects that can happen!' Just pleaase be careful out there, if you are doing alternative medicine, please find an appropriate health care provider that backs you up 100%, if you don't chances are you will be turned into CPS for refusing certain drugs or vaccines, it has already happened to me, and it is a horrible experience having them threaten to take your child away for refusing a vaccine, let me tell you. Please, please, please, inform yourself as to the side-effects of any medication, and how long it has been out, and what clinical trials it has gone through, with what ages, how many, how long, etc. KNOW THE FACTS!!!!

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that prescribing psychotropic drugs to young children will decrease any time soon. In April 2002, President Bush created the New Freedom Initiative and the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health (NFCMH). This new organization will push for mandatory mental health screening, diagnosis, and treatment for all school age children, and not always with parental consent. This new program not only pushes more unnecessary and sometimes deadly psychotropic drugs on children, all the while increasing the profits of pharmaceutical companies, but it also violates several constitutional rights.

There are a variety of websites out there with information on this new act. I urge you to do your own research and look up the New Freedom Initiative. For now, here is an excellent three-part report on the issue from another physician whom I respect.

The best protection is being informed. My oldest daughter had been diagnosed with ADD with a 5min. exam. I thought it was 'hooey' and did not put her on meds. However, she ended up having lots of problems later in school. So, when they diagnosed my son as ADD after a lot of testing and survey work, I put him on Ritalin in 1st grade. When he became zombie-like they switched his meds. Whatever it was caused what I would call a phsychotic episode where I thought he was going to throw himself in front of traffic because he wanted to die. They told me I was silly; this med could not cause this. I never gave it to him again and such an episode never happened again!! He received no meds from then on. His second grade teacher was very helpful; she was up on ADD/behavioral methods. They had signals in the classroom and he did very well. The next year was horrible for him. They did LD testing and found out he needed special ed. classes. He was in the classes until 6th grade. He is a freshman in highschool this year and will be completely general ed. classes starting next year. Just think the good that may have been done if the right testing had been done in the first place instead of prescribing drugs! By the way, every administrator and teacher was angry at me when I took him of the drugs. I got dirty looks, was talked about, and knew without a doubt what they thought of my decision.

GGB posted this website, 7 times. Has anyone read it? It's very credible. I am very familiar with the Pfeiffer Treatment Center near Chicago. Many children with autism are treated there, as well as children and adults with other neurological and behavioral disorders.
My grandson is being treated for heavy metal poisoning, AKA autism, by a local, but very well known DAN! Doctor (Defeat Autism Now!). We did similar initial tests and do follow ups every 2-3 months. The article talks about the B-6 and zinc deficiency as being at the root of many of these disorders. For a huge number of individuals, this is the case. My grandson is on transdermal B6 as well as B12, zinc, magnesium and other vitamins and essential minerals. He takes fatty acids, an immune booster, and is chelating with a transdermal gel. He is also on a gluten and casein free diet with digestive enzymes for occasional infractions. A Neurologist told us "biomedical" wouldn't work and suggested we think about small doses of Risperal. We walked out never went back. BTW, this little guy is doing great! He has lost most of his autistic behaviors, he is social, loving, funny, smart and talks a lot!!! He's not even in kindergarten yet. We still have a ways to go, but he's getting better...and to think we are doing this without drugs!!!!

I agree this was an unnecessary tragedy and one that cannot be reversed. However, the real tragedy that CAN be reversed is not taking responsibility for your own health and wellness. I agree wholeheartedly with Dr. Mercola in that it is important to seek the truth about healthcare and the choices you do have.

Over the past several years I have had the privilege of reading hundreds of neurotransmitter reports and have consistently seen that our youth have the most imbalances. ADD/ADHD, Autism, and other labels are becoming common household words. It is clear to see that processed foods, transgenerational imbalances, impure water supplies, excessive toxins,etc., that we are exposed to every day is taking a deadly and tragic toll on humanity. Isn't it time you start to find the truth out for yourself? Get the information about what it takes to realize true health and wellness. Read the articles on Dr. Mercola's site (it is one I refer clients to everyday in my own holistic health practice). Then start introducing these truths into your own lifestyle. This is the way to make a difference.

We're all asking why this little girl was on these dangerous drugs since she was 2 1/2, and why a child this young is in school. I don't necessarily attribute this to bad parenting... Within an hour of birth, an infant is given a Hep B shot. She is then given 7 vaccines at 2 mos, 6 more including boosters at 4 mos, and 8 more at 6 mos. By age 2, a child receives 32 doses of 14 vaccines. By age 5, it's something like 48. Now, we have 1 in 150 children who are autistic, 4,000,000 children with ADD and 1 in 6 kids with learning disorders. If a mom suspects her child is at risk (and many of them are, due to the aggressive assault on their immature immune systems) they are directed to Early Intervention programs. Teachers and parents alike are given guidelines as to what behavioral "signs" to look for, and often they are directed to Neurologists, who will gladly hand out drugs like Clonodine and Depakote. Now we have other issues like asthma and allergies, so we need inhalers, antihistamines and cough suppressants....Ironically, If a parents refuse vaccinations, they have a healthy child, but are often threatened with child endangering charges. "Good" parents who comply, often have children who end up like Rebecca...and when their tiny bodies can no longer handle this overload, they die. These parents are then charged with murder! Go figure.....
I say Big Pharma is to blame in Rebecca's death, with the CDC, FDA, AAP and a bunch of crooked Politicians as their accomplices.

Yes, we all know the medical establishment is broken. But why were teachers and school nurses seeing a 4 year old in school? Four years is a time when the child should be at home with her mother. This case is as much a symptom of our societal breakdown as it is a medical failure.

If the federal govt didn't take such a huge percentage of our wages less women would work and more would stay home.

If feminism didn't tell women raising children has no value but work does, more women would stay home.

If men and women would stay married and take responsibility for their children's future and education, then 4 year olds would never be in a govt school to be exposed to the teacher and school nurses recommendation. This is another great example of the reason for parents to be responsible for education and not the state. This is another death that homeschooling would have prevented.

What a tragedy! You are right - Rebecca should have never been prescribed those drugs in the first place. Drugs are not the way to treat kids. My husband and I stay clear of drugs now. We just give our kids NingXia Red, which boosts their immune system and helps prevent them from health problems in the first place. We also try to make sure they eat healthy and are active. If they do get a mild cold, we give them an extra dose of NingXia Red combined with orange juice to boost their immune system so that their bodies can fight off the viruses without the need of drugs. Drugs should not be given to kids!

Live healthy and help your kids do the same!

As the parent of two now grown children I can only begin to imagine the life long pain of this experience. How sad for all involved. What do we learn, and how do we take "right" action. We seem to all have strong feelings about the overuse and abuse of prescription drugs by our medical community. We must remember we have a responsibility in all this. We are the consumers in an overmedicated society because we all want a "fix" instead of dealing with the slow, challenge of real lifestyle changes. Now we are creating the same misuse and abuse of "natural" supplements by our wanting a pill, an herb, a "something" to fix things. While most plant based substances are more gentle with less side effects, their synergistic effects with prescriptions as well as some of their own effects can create the same problems.

Use our consumer power positively:
1.DEMAND that our physicians be trained in alternative techniques and medications and they will be, slowly but they will respond.
2. Stop buying natural supplements just like we want to stop the overuse of prescriptions meds. They're drugs too!
3. DEMAND through the public media, that the medical community stop medicating us for everything, and look at causes instead of symptoms.

We ultimately drive the system, it's our dollars, we need to stop blaming everyone else.

This is so sad................how could a 4 yr old girl have all this wrong with her and have so many drugs in her?

Speaking of drug interactions........My friend's son, in his early 20's took Neo Citrin and used his asthma inhaler. He went from a normal, working young man to a Manic Depressive, out of control young man!

Right now, my other friend is trying to get off of Paxil...........it has been so hard for this mother of a young boy, but she wanted her feelings back.

Yes the medical system is broken. This again highlights the lack of knowledge that doctors have about the CYP450 enzyme system that deals with metabolism of drugs, alcohol and certain foods. Most of them haven’t even heard of it, much less realise it is an issue. Many drugs and foods are either substrates (broken down by), inhibitors or inducers of these enzyme systems, which is why cocktails of OTC and prescription drugs can be so deadly.

BUT to be fair, now big Pharma controls the so-called evidence-based medicine guidelines, THEY get to write the rules. When Mrs Bloggs goes to her MD with high cholesterol, the guidelines state that he must prescribe a statin. If he doesn’t he could be sued. So like puppets on a string, they dance to big Pharma’s tune to the detriment and death of their patients.
