Hi, I live in Australia and there has recently been reports that some Drs and Hospitals are sending patient records to India and other countries for transcription. Why? because it is cheaper than doing it locally. The major problem that these "health" officials cant seem to grasp? The English language is hard enough for english speaking people to understand and people have concerns that these records will be transcribed incorrectly and that patient confidentiality will be compromised. Does this all sound familiar to anyone in the US?

I have been following everyones' comments and think most of you may enjoy (?) reading a book called Internal Bleeding, by R. Wachter,MD and Kaveh Shojania, MD. They offer a very balanced and honest appraisal of the state of our hospitals. They also offer solutions to the many system failures that are present in our hospitals today.

I know someone that went in for one thing, then ended up near death from that norvo virus that was picked up in the hospital. Not that all things like this can be attributed to a dirty hospital, but whenever a congregation of sickos get together, you're liable to pick up something! :)
I also agree, only go to the hospital if you really, really need an operation and then have someone there with you whenever possible, esp when you are incoherent etc. I have a relative going in for colon cancer surgery and we are preparing to stay with them until they get out, just in case. But I'll be probioticing and krill oiling and eating good with lots of handwashing the whole time in there let me tell ya.
It's funny, when you are a kid, you think all doctors, hospital and gov't were looking out for your very best interest and never let anything bad happen to you.... now I kind of see things differently, and a lot more $$ floating in front of my eyes :)

I would like to share an experience I had some years ago (Medical Mistakes!)I had a small opereation to have my tubes tied. A half hour operation. As I came around ,staff all around me to be told that they could not bring me around. They needed to know why this happened. I was questioned on different things. Then asked how many asprin etc.such like do I take a week. I never have taken any unless really in pain. I said none asked how many in a month-none a year mostly none. That was the reason they could not bring me around as they allow for what they thought I would have taken at least two to three asprin letc. a week so had over anethaitised me.Today after the knowledge I have gained I would have had something to say. I have often wished I knew then what I know now. Alarming to think that that is the norm to think we all live in pain killers.
They did remark to me how clear my organs were.

Hospital are staffed by human beings so errors will occur. However, the only reason I would willing go to a hospital is for a major trauma. Even then I would want somebody by my side to make sure I am taken care of. Most hospitals today are staffed by good people who have to put up with B.S. from the administration who are more concerned about the bottom line than patient care.

The incidents mentioned above are only the tip of the iceberg. Most medical errors go unreported. The myth that medicine is an altruistic "helping profession" needs to be debunked. Hospitals and doctors exist as businesses, and with few exceptions they are in business to make money. They make money by selling you unnecessary, expensive and dangerous procedures and unnecessary, expensive and dangerous drugs. Take away these procedures and drugs and the Emperor is well and truly naked.

Just this morning there was a news report that just maybe women over 40 should not routinely get a yearly mammogram. Of course there was a doctor, whose personal opinion was that everyone should get a yearly mammogram regardless of what the new study said, in order to catch any possible cancers early. It is this type of reporting that leads to tremendous confusion among the viewing public. Without the wonderful resources that I have found here on Mercola.com I would be just like millions of other people who gain most of their health info from news reports on television. We need to be armed with the real truth before we ever set foot in a hospital or doctor's office. We also can not allow medical professionals to bully us into unwanted treatment.

A friend's daughter went into the hospital to have her second baby. On day two, the infant contracted viral meningitis. She stayed long enough to clear it and went home after ten days. On day one of her homecoming, her mom had her to the Ped's with a strep infection. Loads of antibiotics and no probiotics led to diarrhea, yeast and dehydration. She's recovered now, but how did she get sick to begin with???? Could it be from a less than perfect hospital environment???? Oh, and did they think to delay that precious hep B shot while this baby's immune system was challenged? Of course not. My friend who is a Registered Nurse, looked annoyed when I suggested that these infections could have/should have been prevented, but at the very least, should have been handled better. (This is the same person who told me that I am wrong about splenda and that it is perfectly safe because it is made from sugar!!!) I give up trying to convince hardheaded medical know-it-alls when it comes to their own personal "health" choices, but I will never shut up when it comes to the innocent and vulnerable children who depend on us to do what is best for them!!!!
