I also recieved training in Traditional Chinese Medicine. My partner is completing her training in "classical" acupuncture. ... I have had many years of experience in working with the principals of Chinese medicine both through working directly with the meridians and through working with Chinese Herbology. I can say from experience that Chinese medicine is one of the most misunderstood forms of healing here in western culture.

There have been numerous cases in my own experience where I was able to alleviate a medical problem in a matter of minutes or hours,.. where if that same person had chosen to take the route of treatment via western medicine, .. not only would the problem have taken significantly longer to treat,.. the problem would have emerged again down the road and in a worse form than originally existed. The reason for this is because the form of treatment offered by western medicine would have literally suppressed the cause of the problem deeper into the body-mind,.. simply because the treatment is designed only to alleviate the symptoms.

My experience has shown me that TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), is only as good as the practitioner who is applying it. So too,.. there is "TCM" ,... and there is "classical TCM". ... The latter, in my opinion is far superior to the former, as the latter applies a deeper and richer understanding of the "life force" or "Chi" and how to work with it,.. on a deeper level than the more common form of acupuncture and TCM presently found in the world.

Most people do not know that "classical TCM" is a powerful healing tool to utilise on all levels of ones being. This includes the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. .. But here again,.. it must be stated that the treatment is only as good as the practitioner.

On the subject of chiropractic. .... Personally I have experienced a good deal of this form of healing work from a number of different practitioners over the years. In my opinion the most superior form of chiropractic that exists in the world today is "Network Care". ... In my opinion, Network is a significantly more evolved form of chiropractic because of the fact that it works to "allow" the nervous system to "clear" aberations from the body-mind that are the root cause of structural subluxations. .. Rather than simply repeatedly pushing bones back into their proper alignment,.... Network allows the body's own innate intelligence to clear and detox the original trauma out of the nervous system,.. through it's own natural detoxing process.

This form of treatment does not involve forceful manipulations of the spine and body,.. but rather is amazingly gentle and non-intrusive light touches to the body. I would recommend Network Care as part of a healing regimen for most any form of medical condition one might be dealing with.

As with any practitioner, there are good ones and then there are brilliant ones.

The fundamental philosophy of all natural Medicine is to Do no harm, treat the cause not the symptom & teach the client to care for themselves. To get a real insight into how broad the treatments are, head to a traditional Chinese acupuncturist as their skills have been handed down for centuries and there is some treatments that just aren't taught to western practitioners.

There is a group of practitioners that also have great results with skin conditions through acupuncture.

re: Acupuncture Helps Back Pain Even if Skeptical

I've had trigeminal neuralgia for 35 years. A year ago this past November I discovered accupuncture and am now free of heavy medications and narcotics for the pain. During these 35 years, I had to be taken to the emergency room many times. In my experience, bodywork is so much more effective for pain and tension related problems, acupuncture is more effective for internal organ problems. I also consider it important to empower my clients with teaching them simple techniques such as self-acupressure to do at home--how reassuring to know that you can help yourself and not need drugs! Everyone is on a different journey and requires different peices to THEIR healing puzzle. The most interesting thing that I have learned and appreciate is this: It is a 2000+ yr old medicine. The chinese view of the human body is 12 organs, 4 types of fluids (qi, blood, jing, ye) and extra-ordinary organs (brain, bone, bone marrow, uterus, GB).

As a western society, we always try to figure out why things work, we compare them to our medicine and so forth. I can tell you first hand that all these researchers are trying to find out why TCM works and they will never figure it out. They might from a western perspective, but they don't understand energy and that is what TCM is. As well, you cannot correlate any aspect of the human body and disease with TCM. It just does not line up. They believe that internal, external pathologies, yin, yang, deficiency, excess rule how someone gets sick and is treated. Treatment is all about chinese patterns.

As I do not fully "beleive" yet that TCM can realign a spondylolisthesis and so forth. But, TCM is a great peice to the healing puzzle for pain relief and a wide variety of other diseases.

We view pain in the LB as muscles, bones, etc. But TCM looks at is a KD issue, extreme isssues with fear, a UB issue and so forth.

re: Acupuncture Helps Back Pain Even If Skeptical

Having had accupuncture a few times I found it very helpful. But the entire body is interrelated. What is happening in one area of your life or your body definetly affects the other areas. You have to treat the whole person not just the symptoms.

Mary

re: Acupuncture Helps Back Pain Even If Skeptical

I generally recommend postural and biomechanical assessment by C.H.E.K practitioner, followed by custom exercise program to correct muscular imbalances along with acupuncture and chiropractor.
