You’re “fat”?, then, in a four-year-old’s view, you eat too much and move too little. It’s not that simple.

The obese are actually starving, nutritionally. Limiting their customary food intake is not going to help. Furthermore, exercising only further depletes the body’s energy & nutrient stores, giving rise to a prodigious appetite.

Much like the myths of the always-on-the-horizon “cure for cancer” and “eating fat makes you fat”, we have “dieting and exercise make you slim”. Well, for those enjoying the common Westernized diet of refined sugars, refined flour, factory meats, soy and canola oil, plus various processed, toxic additives, dieting and exercise are the WORSE things those that are overweight should be doing. Is this by design or some unfortunate metabolic “accident”? One has to wonder. Everything that’s wrong in the world can be attributed to stupidity, evil, or some combination thereof.

Simply stated, only diet will turn this train around, not “dieting”. Giving a starving body less crappy food is not a solution. Giving the body NO crappy food but REAL food instead is what’s required. That means NO refined flour, NO refined sugar, NO refined seed oils, NO factory meats, and NO artificial sweeteners. Well, then what’s left to eat? THAT’S the real problem, as many of the victims in this situation cannot imagine eating outside the “standard” food supply. Nourish the body with good carbs (vegetables, berries, fruits), good, stable fats (butter, coconut oil, olive oil), good proteins (grass-fed, free-range meats) instead of simply feeding it empty, processed crap, and the weight problems automatically reverse. Then and only then, some light exercise may be helpful, as exercising on a bad diet is disaster to an already damaged body.

re: Another Myth Exploded -- Dieting Does Not Work

I totally agree, and I can say it by experience. Diets DO NOT work. The only thing that works is leading a healthy lifestyle. Here are some pointers:

1. Detoxify and maintain your body clean by limiting the amount of toxins you put into your body.

2. Use housecleaning products (detergents, multipurpose cleaners) and personal use products (shampoos, soaps deodorants, toothpastes) that are toxin-free.

3. Eat healthy. Make sure you have three meals a day and two snacks in between. Try to eat mostly organic foods since they have more nutrients packed in them.

4. Make exercise a priority. Make it a part of your daily routine

5. Drink lots of FILTERED water.

6. Keep stress to a minimum.

7. Take a WHOLE-FOOD supplement, not a multi vitamin/mineral one that has lots of synthetic stuff in it and has a minimal effect on your body.

Live healthy!
Mirdza
Helping People Lead Healthier Lives

re: Another Myth Exploded -- Dieting Does Not Work

I agree Dieting doesn't work but Lifestyle change does. I AM eating way healthier and considerably less (tapered off very slowly, over years so as not to send my body into famine mode) and exercising 6-8 hours a week and I absolutely cannot lose weight no matter what.
I do feel great finally, but I'm still at least 70 pounds overweight and I cannot even lose 1 pound. I tried cardio, weight machines and now I'm swinging kettlebells - still nothing! I wouldn't even care except there are no fat 90 year olds and I would really like to live at least that long.
And there are dozens of other people just like me at my gym, so something else is going on. I sure wish they'd figure it out.

re: Another Myth Exploded -- Dieting Does Not Work

Brilliant mathematician (despite going to Harvard, but he redeemed himself by teaching at UC Santa Cruz and becoming a Banana Slug) and comedy song writer/satirist, Tom Lehrer, wrote a lyric that comes to mind from his 1964 album 'That Was the Year The Was': "It's so simple only a child can do it", referring to 'New Math'.

So it is of little surprise to read from the good Doctor Joseph Mercola that dieting really does not work.

In point of fact, there was a wire item, just this morning, from a new peer reviewed study in the EU "rediscovering" (oh, gee, what a surprise) that an unprocessed Mediterranean style diet, with regular low impact exercise is BEST, or essential, for protection from childhood (and beyond) obesity (and related hypoglycemia, diabetes, cardio vascular disease, etc.).

With Big Pharma, Big Soda/Booze and Big Processed Food all playing the Big Tobacco deflection and pointing finger game, at each other, though all are GUILTY AS CHARGED in ruining public health, may I suggest it is YOU who must take control of your own health!

To quote another Tom Lehrer lyric about Werner von Braun, "Unze the rocket is up, I do not care where'z it comez down, it's not my department, saz Werner von Braun."

Dietary health and intake is a bit like rocket science, the quality of the fuel, as well as trajectory and target have a net result, sometimes correct, and typically disastrous if not.

re: Another Myth Exploded -- Dieting Does Not Work

I agree, I agree, I certainly agree with you Dr. Mercola.

The best way to lose fatty bounds and gain good muscle weight is --

             a) eat super foods
             b) exercise daily
             c) flush your system
             d) take vit. minerals and enzimes
             e) learn to understand and deal with your past and present stresses
             f) be more possitive then negitive
